atomiswave....cant enter game only enter credits help!

Post by Khan »

hi
im having difficulty with my atomiswave, i can load up a game but when i press credit it ups the credits but as soon as I hit start on my joystick and even 1P start on my supergun nothing happens :( I can even get into test menu and all buttons seem to be working in the test menu except the service button on my supergun

theres 2 dip switches one with lets u choose between hi res and normal and one that launches the system menu on startup i tried both and changed a few settings in system menu to no luck!

help!

edi:Ok i tried a second atomiswave board and the joystick doesnt seem to work at all in that! also when i go into system menu the 1p button on the supergun does down on the selection on the menu but I can enter into anything not even Input/Output test :(

am I missing something really obvious or is my supergun at fault?

For most Atomiswave games, you press the test switch to cycle through the options and hold it for 2 seconds to select.

already tried that dude, anyway I came across this

http://www.atomiswave.net/viewtopic.php ... ight=#1610

its weird because if i go to date/time it automatically speeds through them and im not even pressing the joystick! could this be the issue?

im tempted to open both boards up to take a look but I dont have a clue with electronics how would I know if its a duff diode? :?

The Sega ST-V mobo is notorious for using a similar setup to cycle through the Main Screen Options as well. ^_~

are you having the same issues with both motherboards?

and have you used the supergun with any other boards so you can confirm its not at fault?

and just to clarify, you mentioned the test menu...were you able to check inputs and confirm the start button is functioning properly?

if it is an issue with the start button google and find a chart for the jamma pinout

open up the supergun and find the start button lines and ground lines and trace them to make sure they are making contact with the appropriate pins

hth :D

also what kind of controller/stick are you using and has it been re-wired?

Hi thanks for the response, im pretty sure the supergun is not the problem, I can use my pgm motherboard perfectly fine and play games with it no problems. I even have a pgm PCB which also works fine, however both atomiswave motherboards simply wont let me start in game.....I get to the system menu and go into inputs and everytime I press a button in the I/O test menu it switches from "OFF" to "ON" so it seems its recognising everything even the start button my joystick which is an official neo geo joystick.

but like i said I cant press start once I reach the title screen.....I can enter credits perfectly fine but nothing past that :(

Firebug said he will take a look for me as imo it could be the faulty diode issue ive mentioned.

Sounds like the diode could be it- I didn't read the post too close, are there multiple diodes for different batches of buttons? You'd have to get the right one.

To be sure you'd just have to absolutely follow the harness for shorts- just tracing "right" (or whatever moves the clock) would confirm that it's not the harness. I can't help think that if it was same way on two boards, it's probably a short in the harness that deosn't relate to your other boards (maybe one of the test switches moves the clock, and is shorted).

I'm assuming that, whatever it is, this would mean that some button stuck on wouldn't let you press start. --if not that, then you'd be barking up the wrong tree.
