Rejoyce folks! As it might happen that people have different tastes and (omg omg omg what now) they could be even... wait for it... yes, different than yours!
I know it's difficult to accept, but with time anyone can do it
On a serious note, though, I'm one of those that thoroughly played it, liked it a damn lot and voted it, and I won't hide
I'll vote it again and again until I find other games that can be more entertaining and challenging than GV.
I think Ikaruga is suffering from a rare (in this specific genre) "mainstream backstab". It's still a damn fine game, but it got too much attention since the GC/XBLA conversion and since popular nerd havens like SA, 4chan, Maddox and so on overpraised it instead of bashing everything like usual.
Every nerd now is talking about how cool ikaruga is and this is mostly unacceptable for a true shmupper who maybe would prefer focusing on an obscure X68000 shmup rather than joining the mob and hailing Ikaruga
I still think that Ikaruga is still worth mentioning as one of the best, simplest and yet most innovative shmups out there. The fact that it's been overanalyzed doesn't dim its juicy bichromatic goodness

Alas, Ikaruga is going...
Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

That's besides the point...Fenrir wrote:Rejoyce folks! As it might happen that people have different tastes and (omg omg omg what now) they could be even... wait for it... yes, different than yours!

It doesn't take very deep analisys to realize that Gradius V is far from perfect and has quite a few problems.
The game is definitely enjoyable, but I think everyone can agree that it is far from being the best shmup ever.

Notes.
1. I haven't really played Futari myself, but it does seem better than its predecessor in pretty much every way possible, so I went by that.
2. I haven't played the arcade version of Ketsui, but I have played Ketsui DL; see note #1 for the rest. Hoping to have a good taste of it by the next poll with the upcoming release.
I think you missed rule#3.

"3) Don't Vote for Games You Haven't Played! Hopefully that was self-evident..."
So you shouldn't vote for Futari.
As for Ketsui DL, if the Top 25 counts it as Ketsui, this will as well.
Oh crap, I forgot about that. Well, I'll change that shortly. Thanks.
I also decided to drop Ketsui, since I think DL shouldn't really be counted on par with the arcade game. It's cool and all, but it's different enough.

each person has their own criteria that they measure each game on. you might think the game has "flaws", but someone else might not, might not believe that any game can be perfect, and think that if you are "analysing" these games then you are probably do it completely wrong
(or they might not like vertical shooters

personally, i think it was a landmark title and the perfect synergy between the old and new-school style of shooters. it looked great, but still retained the classic gradius gameplay. but hey
