Well done! They look awesome! I am curious if you find any boards which won't sync with those monitors though.

You're a crazy man. Have fun with them.

Have any PCBs left to play after the mega-sale?

lol- ditto!

I would love to see some low-res stuff running in those guys. Is it possible to play with the screen *not* stretched?

They look very cool.

I honestly wanna know how much you plopped down for those things, because that is the lower end model of the Vewlix units - the Vewlix-L.

For SuperPang,

So low-res arcade PCBs look like shit on the Vewlix? Ah shucks, that's too bad. The classic hard-core arcade gamer still loves to game on the ol' CRT-based ones. But since times are a-changing, going with an arcade cabinet with LCD screen setup is the wave of the future and it is now. So running any of the 31kHz high-res games (Naomi, Type X, Chichiro, Atomiswave, etc.) would be the way to go right, SuperPang? ^_~

Will any LCD manufacturer make a low-res 29" 4:3 format LCD monitor for the aging Egret II/Astro cabs as a direct replacement for the CRT-based 29" Nanao monitors? You'd think that there would a demand for an LCD monitor in that size...surely it wouldn't be that hard to make them, right?

Very nice pair of spanking brand new Vewlix L variant cabinets you've got there, N80G80. Suppose if you went with a pair of the higher end "red colored" Vewlix cabinets, how much more would those have set you back?

I still like those cool Taito prototype Concept-E cabinets (precursor of the current Taito Vewlix and Vewlix L cabs) with the cool LED-based backlit joysticks and push buttons -- that would've cool if Taito implemented that particular feature into the current Vewlix cab setup. Talk about one tricked out Japanese candy cab if that was so. ^_~

It's not hard to make any monitor with older specs, but they have to give up production time to make them. The factories seem to be focusing on pushing out newer models because the sectors of corporate demand seem to be moving into the higher-end; on the other hand, sales of retro-compatible LCDs would have to go pretty much to end users, not a predictable market especially compared to a company that says it wants so many of X panel.

In other words, I don't really see it happening :(

Best thing would be for better display tech to come along that alleviates some of the deficiencies towards retrogaming seen especially with LCD screens.

On NCSX's site, they mention that pre-orders for a pair of Taito Vewlix-L cabs are being accepted as of the week of February 22nd, 2009:

King of Fighters XII Cabinet Kit:

We're tempted to reserve the KOFXII full cab kit that vendors started preorders for earlier this week. The kit includes two Vewlix-L (blue colored type) cabs, a VS communication cable, and two (Japanese-style) arcade chairs. The price is 1,020,000 yen or roughly $10,500 USD and the crating and freight costs would probably run up another $1,500 USD. If we decide to bring one in, we'll take photos of the setup.

http://www.ncsx.com/2009/022309/ncs0223f.htm

Sounds like mucho dinero for a KOFXII cab kit...but I'm sure it's all worth it in the end. ^_~

Ay word from N80G80 on how regular 15khz PCBs look on these LCD monitors? Is it upscaned? Does it show scanlines? Does Raiden Fighters Jet sync?

The Taito JAMMA kit upscans, I think, but no faux scanlines. I've seen an XRGB2 on my F with scanlines. Its not a complete disaster but like any LCD, just doesn't compare to CRT. 31khz doesn't look bad at all, but again can't compete with a VGA res CRT.

those are nice... but for 9000.00 I think I would rather have put that money into something else like a couple really nice vacations abroad.

N80G80 I'm glad I could help a little in getting you the cash for those beasts and I hope they are every thing you wanted. They certainly are beautiful and I imagine the image quality on newer systems is breathtaking.
