Did that for the Wii launch. But mostly i am calling sick when i AM sick.
Because we have to pay 10€ just for entering the fucking doctor's office.
Oddly enough this was caused by a law which was invented to prevent people getting called sick when they want to skip classes / job.
Ironically though, the law doesn't apply to infants and anyone below the age of 18. So in the end i have to think twice if a regular cold is worth seeing a doctor and paying 10€ + medication.
But hey, when i'm called sick i use the time to play games, of course ^^
Funny that you opened this thread, Kindgrind, since IIRC you are a teacher? ;)

I never called in sick at work, but I did pretend to be sick so I could take a day off and play games when I was in middle school and high school.

Since I just plain don't get paid if I don't work (aside from 1 week of paid vacation for every 1,500 hours worked) I can't recall the last time I actually took a sick day for actually being sick, much less for anything else.

Same here. In fact there was one semester last year that I did this virtually every day. Murdered my GPA, that's for sure, but that was a fun semester.

I used to do that back when I was in high school. Now that my grades actually matter, I try to go to class even when I'm sick so I don't fall behind.

Only time I ever did it was the midnight launch of halo 2. I still pop in that game from time to time and it's fun but I've never gotten over the ending.

I took some well-deserved vactaion when PSO GC came out.

Other than that... I've called in sick once since 2001, and that was b/c I was in the emergency room. I've gone to work massively fucked before though. That one instance I had to go in b/c I took Friday off "to go party w/ some friends from out of town". Wouldn't look good to take Monday off. So what did I do? Went in to work and stayed the toilet all day.

Once, but it was for a tournament, so I don't know if it really counts... it wasn't like I was just sitting at home playing a game that I could play anytime I wanted...

Voted no. Had to think carefully, though. There are two things that made me unsure..

1. I have played a video game all night, then - being too tired to go to school - called in sick.

2. Last week I told my teacher that tuesday that I couldn't come to class on friday. Did not give him the reason though (the reason = because I went to Dragonforce to play video games).

I don't think any of those count, because in the second example I did not lie to the teacher and told him I was sick. I was honest "I'm not going to be there on friday, live with it". The first example I don't count, because I don't wanna ruin my image of being a good boy ;)

I sort of did for the GTA4 launch. I had a legit medical appointment in the morning that day, but even though I could have been back to work by ten I took the whole day to play 360.

Back in my elementary school days I faked sick constantly and played NES, but that wasn't so much about playing games as just not being a school.

skipped a day recently for SFIV. I had to do it. Being a full time student and working leaves little recreational time. Besides, I work at walmart, not like it matters

Must've been the day they taught the difference between "to" and "too"

But I kid. I kid because I love.

I seldom take days off work… I have had late nights playing games then get little sleep and have regrets while at work… those times I wish I had called in.

I have a friend who took two days off of work when Gran Turismo 4 came out. He had him self a four day weekend lol… he has done this for GT2 and GT3 as well. It is most unfortunate that he won't have that chance when Gran Turismo 5 comes out as he has been permanently laid off from the plant

Heck yeah I have, but only for big Konami games. Metal Gear, Silent Hill, and Castlevania games have all caused me to miss work!

You know, even when I did feel a bit under the weather (back in the day) my mom was always like, "No, you're fine. Get ready for school." I had to be in excruciating pain, puking or something of that nature (near death) to get out of school.

Calling in sick when your still able to "function" is lame.
Most often you pass a burden onto your coworkers who haven't asked for that.

In the last 7 years I had to stay at home only after surgery (dokter's orders) and when I broke my Clavicle and REALLY couldn't do a thing at work.

And after a day at work it's always good to know you can get home and continue with your hobby.
Playing after work feels like you earned playing time and is thus more satisfying to me.

Identifying with your job and employer is lame.

I don't feel the need to "earn" playing time or any other kind of time.

Yes, but that's obviously not the reason I think calling in sick unnecessary is lame if you read well.
Putting extra burden on coworkers is as far as I am concerned.
I despise people doing that to me as well and won't help them out if needed.
Tit for tat.
