LS40's are pretty crap overall. 55's and 56's are better. But they're nothing compared to the LS32's.

If you want a nice soft stick, grab a Sanwa JLF.

Installing this Seimitsu LS-32-01 stick on my Egret 2 is the best thing I've ever done for it. I love its responsiveness for shooters. I only wish I'd done it sooner. :D

And while I love the Sanwa JLF stick for every genre OTHER than shooters and it is one smooth stick, the LS-32 just offers more responsiveness to me overall. Just my 2 cents. :D

Yes, those Seimitsu LS-32-01 type of joysticks are ace for shmups. Of course, some folks prefer the Sanwa type of joysticks. You won't go wrong with either joystick manufacturer. ^_~

There is a third joystick option that you can use and that would be the leaf-switch based joystick. It's feeling compared to that of a microswitched-based joystick is quite different. Different stokes for different folks. ^_~

I just switched my Player 2 stick to the Player 1 side (it's been used for about 2 years and it's starting to feel a bit unreliable when i want to move straight down instead of down left/right) and the Player 2 stick is basically unused since I only play CAVE shmups in my EGRET II. :D

As the LS-32-01's have a small PCB with the switches, would I only need to change that + the spring when the sticks start to "wear down"?

While I was at it, I also tried adding 3 layers of electrical tape to the green plastic bottom shaft cover to shorten the throw AFTER the switch's activated but if there's a different lever guide available to give a bit more precision with diagonals I'd be happy for tips about it.

why bother refurbishing old hardware with new parts when you can get a brand new ready to go ls32-01 for like $25?

seem silly considering the kind of money we throw down as collectors to skimp on such a cheap and yet all too important piece of the puzzle

thats just my take on it tho.....

You could just replace the little pcb and spring in the Seimitsu LS-32-01 if it ever needed it but I just bought two extra complete LS-32-01 sticks and put them up for backups. As was stated, they only set me back $23.95 each, a small price to pay considering what I paid for these cabinets. :D

As was also stated, some people still love the Sanwa JLF sticks for shooters. To each his own and it's always best to try them out to see what you like personally if you have the means.

Not so much for refurbishing, but to completely remove the base of the stick is painstaking as opposed to just replacing the "moving parts".

Ten minutes / 1 minute. That's gaming time ticking away right there. :D

I refurb because it's a lot cheaper - two full stick refurbs are less than the price of a single new stick, and shipping on bits is far far less than two sticks :)

Also, I prefer my sticks with a fine coating of grease on the contact parts - so I've got to take them apart anyway.
