Atomiswave SD cabinet
Atomiswave SD cabinet
I currently own an Egret 2 cabinet and was considering adding a second cabinet to use with my horizontal shooters so that I could reduce wear and tear on my Egret 2 from rotating the monitor on a continuous basis.
I was wondering if there are any differences between the two cabinet, other than cosmetic, and wanted to make sure this Atomiswave SD cabinet would work with Jamma shooters like the Cave pcbs and stuff like R-Type Leo and Sengoku Blaede?
Thanks ahead of time for any help. I'm mainly just looking for opinions and info on the Atomiswave SD cabinet. It looks almost exactly like the Egret 2 to me.

I find the monitor on the AWSD has a bloomin effect with low resolution games such as Cave and Psikyo stuff.
A connector in the PCB bay needs to be disconnected for Cave games to sync correctly. Other than that your ok.
I would only buy an AWSD if you want to play some hi-res games too.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Yeah I was just reading about that vertical sync problem. Maybe I'll just stick with my Egret 2.

Buy one more EGRET II.

That's not a bad idea. Although I was kinda hoping to mix it up a bit and get something different. I had thought about a New Astro City but Matsu doesn't have any of them at the moment. He said he only has the Atomistwave and Egret 2 cabinets. In truth I don't rotate it very often as there are only handful of horizontal shooters I want.

On the other hand, if you get an Atomiswave, you can quite easily plug in a Dreamcast and play all those nice high res shmups.
I have 1 EGRET II for vertical games and 1 horizontal high res cabinet. I mostly play DreamCast and PS2 horis in it. But as you might understand, the EGRET II gets LOTS more playtime.
If you have 2 EGRET II's, you can have two vertical games side by side as you'll soon notice that vertical games will keep you in a rather hard grip.

I prefer vert shooters for the most part, hence the reason I purchased the Egret 2 as I got tired of turning my television on its side to play the console versions of the games.
I think I might just stick with my Egret 2 as the only hori shooters I plan to own are Deathsmiles, which I already have, and maybe R-Type Leo and Pro Gear.

Its not a problem, you just disconnect a molex and its sorted.corbie wrote:Yeah I was just reading about that vertical sync problem. Maybe I'll just stick with my Egret 2.
AWSD isn't a bad cab, depends how much you know about cabs because I find most of the problems with geometry (its a tri sync, it'll never be perfect with 15KHz low res games), can be fixed with knowledge of how to tweak the monitor chassis pots.
Great cabs, newer monitors than E2's but no easy rotate mechanism. Tri sync monitors and quasi JAMMA/JVS too. I respect the fact that most people if wanting to play only low res would definitely go for an E2, but AWSD's are fine cabs too. I find CPS2 looks great on them, really vibrant.

No, not for only swapping the chassis. A brand new tube + chassis however will get tricky... I love my NANAO 15/24kHz chassis that comes with the EGRET II, so i won't "upgrade" to a Wei-Ya. No good will come of this. In fact, I'd rather play Ikaruga in low res.kernow wrote:Plus you'd have trouble finding one to fit, and probably need a new bezel.

I've decided that given I'll only have a handful of hori shootters, I can just rotate the Egret 2 monitor if needed. There's really no need for another cabinet, plus I don't know where I'd put it anyway already having these two cabinets in my small game room. Besides, I love the Egret 2 and probably wouldn't be happy with anything else. If anything, I might just buy another Egret 2 down the road or an Astro City New.
