i have. i think, thankfully, that not too many people have unlocked them yet. seth has all those garbage moves fully intact, but seems to take extra damage so he goes down quicker. i don't think he's bannable, but he's no joy to fight against. gouken on the other hand....his ability to throw forward and diagonal fireballs is a pain in the ass to get around as honda. and the ex version tosses out both in quick succession. i can't remember exactly how it worked, but i get hit with an fadc setup that did about 35% damage. it went something like {fa-->srk xx fadc--> srk}, i don't remember exactly as i was too busy cursing at my tv. and his throw into ultra setup is just garbage. i'd actually lean towards ban with him, unless he has some glaring weakness i just didn't notice.Cthulhu wrote:On a separate note, I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone play Seth or Gouken.
@lordstar--next time i see you on we'll play a couple matches as long as the trans-atlantic connection isn't too laggy. but i haven't had much time practicing akuma all week. i've been playing sagat, ken, and zangief trying to help my brother train for the gamestop tournament. and don't forget, i'm that pancakes fellow.
It should be fine the only time i have problems is if people have really bad connections or share a house with some one addicted to torrents. The only time my connection is bad is if i leave a torrent on (which i fix pretty much strait away) or if my sister is on itunes downloading shit.brokenhalo wrote:@lordstar--next time i see you on we'll play a couple matches as long as the trans-atlantic connection isn't too laggy. but i haven't had much time practicing akuma all week. i've been playing sagat, ken, and zangief trying to help my brother train for the gamestop tournament. and don't forget, i'm that pancakes fellow.Cthulhu wrote:On a separate note, I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone play Seth or Gouken.

Ok, since 40% to 50% of students in the uni I work in are of asian descent, they decide to buy two copies of this game for the campus bar's arcade. It's packed all day round so it looks like a good investment for them.
So far I am having a few occasions to play a round or two at lunch time. I am playing with Sagat in a very basic, 2X style, but I am more or less successful (best string was 9 in a row and I had to go). Could someone suggest me some material for our beloved baldo?
EDIT: is it possible to double-tap during macro's, so that I am certain for the move to come out? Just to avoid not doing the odd fire-ball.

Cheers jpj, as I suspected I can juggle with the *divinely good* HK, tomorrow I am going to mop the floor with the sorry BA's asses

this is true but there are other grab supers in the game also, at least with this you have a chance to tech out of it, any other grab super and it's damage to your wallet with no chance to save. That asshole gets a free Super/Ultra off his back throw though, so don't take him too lightly.
he's really not that bad. good yes, but I don't think he is god tier or anything,
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

All the characters in this game look like Donkey Kong.

Those throws also give you a two second animation to hold up in, though.Strider77 wrote:this is true but there are other grab supers in the game also, at least with this you have a chance to tech out of it, any other grab super and it's damage to your wallet with no chance to save.

Many of the common characters have ultras that are easy to chain, meaning you can get combos that take 40-50% of your life without much trouble. This is annoying as hell, but it does make the characters popular... I wish that meant my practice against them paid off more.tommyb wrote:And fuck Ken's Ultra, it does like 45% damage. Cheap piece of shit.

In other news, I finally found some people that were good with E. Honda online. Made me happy to see that he could be made decent; I tried him a bit and thought he was pretty awful this time around.

Been using Honda myself, starting mainly to avoid using somebody that everybody else was. He has surprising range and deals out good damage, but you are kind of stuck if a skilled Sagat/Shotokan player wants to play pure defense.Cthulhu wrote:

Only got this last night. Left it on Player matches rather than ranked because I have no 360 arcade stick (
) - but either I'm amazing with a pad or some people really can't play SF. These guys suck.
Is Ranked a lot more difficult - I was holding out until I got the proper gear so I could attempt to earn some battle points.

It's true that the general standard is quite low. There are a number of reasons for this:
1. Street Fighter IV has received heaps of mainstream press coverage meaning that the majority of players aren't beat 'em up specialists. I personally know a number of people that have picked it up that have never
played a Street Fighter game before.
2. Even people that did dabble back in the day seem to have completely lost the art of playing a fighting game with any sense. At least half of the Shoto characters I play will do a hard punch wake-up Shoryuken five times in a row, with me punishing it with Honda's Ochio EVERY TIME. It's almost as if they think that the only skill involved in Street Fighter is executing a move with no regard for when to execute it.
3. About 95% of people will be playing on the 360 pad. I can't think of a worse way to control this game, and I once had a steering wheel versus Guitar Hero guitar battle on Hyper Street Fighter II for jollies.

The popularity of this game has put the stick market through the roof. And it's fucking rediculous. There are TE sticks selling, yes, SELLING on ebay for $400 plus. It also seems the aftermarket parts game is hot too. Lizardlick apparently has quite a wait if you order from his site. The best part will be when it all cools down and you will see people who modded their standard edition sf4 sticks with sanwa/seimitsu parts selling them for cheap because they have no use for them.Skykid wrote:Someone has clearly lost their fucking marbles.Rupert H wrote:Wow! I was in one of the 9 gamestops in my area last night and I found one of the standard edition sticks there used for 64.99...
