We should talk about if Journey blows still, and why the hell there were 200 arcade machines within 4 miles of each other in North Las Vegas back in the day...

I've never seen this site, it's intriguing. It's got some cool people on it like you and Aussie2B and Kid Fenris, but it has this fruity deal with all this "video gaming as life" and "welcome home" and well, most of the posts in that thread you linked really (and most of what I could see from the main page).
Of course I can name some other terrible sites with cool people on them. Most of these are operated by certain members or former members of this forum.
Edit: LOL, I saw this back before it was moved to off-topic. Now I will never see it again probably.

Back in 1978, Space Invaders was the game to play. It might not have gracefully aged as well as other arcade shmups from that era but it is the grandaddy of them all. Without SI, there would be no Toaplan or even Cave today if you stop to ponder a bit about the significance of it. ^_~Ed Oscuro wrote:In my defense, a lot of the discussion is around whether Space Invaders sucks (which I never said, but there you go).Ghegs wrote:Moved to Off Topic.

Rubbish. There would've been something else. I think good ideas are relatively timeless and universal; and while SI has a number of good ideas, the complete package isn't enough to my liking.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Without SI, there would be no Toaplan or even Cave today if you stop to ponder a bit about the significance of it. ^_~

Read the thread through and through, didn't comment on it though (but hey 3 posts in a day from me there is a record), the funniest SI comment though has to come from Kupo. The dude says he played the games when they were new, trouble is he wasn't even around in 1978, heck I never got to play an actual SI cab until around 1996 (at the age of 21 even!). SI wasn't bad for it's time, sure it's not filled with fireworks, there's a few strategies in the game, but it didn't compare funwise to the later SI installments.
In 78 this was the granddaddy of arcade games, I still like it even if the pacing is slow, but hey it's 1978 so we didn't have blast processing yet.

He's not much for reading threads Ed, the thread is about pre 1984 games, and he's talking games from much later, he's always had issues with not reading things first.

I played Space Invaders in smoke filled rooftop arcades in Kuala Lumpur back in 79-80.Bloodreign wrote:Read the thread through and through, didn't comment on it though (but hey 3 posts in a day from me there is a record), the funniest SI comment though has to come from Kupo. ...something I can't pass up an opportunity to brag about, especially on a shmup forum.

I got Kupo to play Fireshark long ago, so perhaps I got him into liking the Toaplan shooters, the dude's opinion was very low on Toaplan games once upon a time. I got him to try the game to try and best my score, he couldn't do it, and perhaps I got a point across to him that Toaplan was a fine company, who knows.Ed Oscuro wrote:Wow, Kupomogli convinced one of the guys there to check out Toaplan. nearly as cool as discovering the tactic of shooting up through your own shield!

I was gonna say something about 23/14 but you've got me there.
I find it better to sit just outside the outer edge of the far left or right bunker and wait for the edge of the Invaders to appear, myself.
