Ketsui Chat

Post by HeLGeN-X »

I went to Mikado ge-sen in Kabukicho a few weeks ago, and was absolutely stoked to find that they had Ketsui there! I was so fucking dumbfounded to see it, that I dropped like 1000 yen all over the place in scattered coins.

When actually playing it, holy fucking shit... I felt it was the best shump (danmaku wise) since Mushihimesama and Dodonpachi (they're not the best, but they're my favorites.)

I was curious as to why I had saw another version of Ketsui in another arcade... I also saw another weird game they had in there, which was Dodonpachi Daioujou, but it was like extremely easy (auto bombs on,) but it seemed to be a remake of the original Dodonpachi actually... What game was that? I also saw a lot of other shumps I had never seen in the USA. They seemed to have Karous (that weird Dreamcast game which you seem to never die in,) and a lot of older games.

Is Ketsui ever coming out on a console aside from the DS version (which was even impossible to find in Japan)?

For some reason, a lot of stores were requesting to give out 4500yen for a Ketsui cartridge for DS, what the fuck? Is Ketsui like caves best shmup in the eyes of the Japanese and danmaku/shmup players alike? I don't know, but all I know is that I had a fucking blast playing it, the bullet patterns in it almost made me orgasm, and the funny thing is that I'm not a hardcore shmup player, but I'd say that it's one of my most favorite cult genres of video games.

As I (FINALLY) played Mushihimesama Futari in Carnival (an arcade across from Mikado dead in the center of Kabukicho,) I actually had a crowd around me, because I did better than almost everybody else who played, but it wasn't such a big deal there, since even shumps there aren't too big a deal, but there's always old school people like me who love and accept them. I got to stage 4 on one life, but died so badly on stage 4, made it to the boss, but got owned, and I'm the type who doesn't like to use bombs no matter what... Why am I so greedy for bombs!? Must be Giga Wing's fault for making bomb saving points, argh!!!

There's no other versions (that I know of)

Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu?

Being released for 360, chances are the port will be less than perfect.

Maybe you saw DoDonPachi 2: Bee Storm?

http://shmups.classicgaming.gamespy.com ... level1.htm

It's a licensed sequel to DoDonPachi but not actually programmed by CAVE. Nowhere near the quality of a Cave game, but still not that bad at all.

/edit
Now that I read that post above me I'm sure you must have seen not DDP2 Bee Storm but Daifukkatsu, the fourth part in the series (released in 2008).

Trust me, I knew Ketsui was coming out on 360, but I also heard that it was not going to come out now... And that worried me, therefore making this topic. I'm almost fiending to own this on console, and I'm sure people here know about releases, so it it really coming out for 360!?

Oh trust me, it was not Bee Storm, I know, because I have played BS before, it was either a hacked version, or a special limited release, but it was definitely a remake of DDP, because it had the same stages, same boss, enemies ETC, but it was in 3D.

Talking of a "special version" of Ketsui... I have some videos of a Cave Matsuri or something where there is a Ketsui that looks pretty weird, the videos are called "Special Version". Was there ever something like that shown at a Matsuri? I could watch the videos again if more information about the "weird looks" are required, didn't watch them since last summer when I got them so I can't remember too much of it.

Probably a beta version of Cave's next release after DS2: DoDonPachi ThreeDeeBee.

Aye. Stand alone on disc, apparently because Microsoft didn't want it in XBLA.

Maybe you saw someone touring through the DDP reprise sections.

The way you describe it sounds like one of my first-grade students talking. So it was Daioujou, but actually Dodonpachi and in 3D! It was actually Daifukkatsu, which is not at all a remake of DDP but does have the bosses from DDP in it as mid-bosses as well as an auto-bomb.
