unfortunately it really is quite shitty, sorry to deliver you this news, but it's funny that touched up sprites can fool you, just like artsy traffic control games can

so...yeah. Deathsmiles 2. I am anxious to see some screens up close. The scrolling city in the background looked nice at least.

according to who? that was the question :?
updating the sprites to hand-drawn hi-res has fooled me into thinking it looks good? :? you're trying to argue a point that was never there  just to make it 100% clear for you: kof XII graphical style > SF4 graphical style. i really don't know how many more times you would like me to reiterate it before you understand

your opinion on what is and isn't good game design is as valid as ever 8)

Hah, if you work in Akihabara I can tell you're sick of it, seeing it every day. But at least you're close to some good stores and game centers.
I was able to use my camcorder at the TGS and the various booth staff were fine with it. Guess it all depends on who gets miffed or not about videotaping such new arcade game footage. ^_~

Is it possible to get better video footage of your DS-II optical toy in a pitch-black room enviroment and the videocamera mounted on a tripod so that it's not herky-jerky but absolutely still (like how the professional videographers would do it)? (Of course, your face would not be shown nor would your identity be compromised in that particular setting...that is a given.)

Your cool optical toy reminds me of how the kick-ass Bally's Space Invaders pinball game uses the exact same optical trick for it's backlit marquee/scoreboard -- looks like "lights that go on towards infinity" type of special effect. It's very easy to do assuming if you have all the right materials, lighting props & a one-way mirror along with a regular mirror to pull it off successfully. ^_~

Thanks for the cool Death Smiles II footage, zap.

I agree. That's a shitty theme... What did they think ? Maybe they were a bit influenced by "Nightmare Before Christmas" ?... but with the kawaï-bunny-manga art style, that does not work.

Would be more interesting if Jesus was the regular final boss and God was the TLB.

And God would be a loli.

Japanese are capable of making anything into a loli, Jesus is no exception.

I figured it out.. the sparse'ness observed so far in this game reminds me of Sengoku Cannon: Sengoku Ace Episode III.

Capcom has taken animation to the next level and it is a 2D approach. The new KOF looks nice but it certainly lacks what SFIV has with the subtlety and details, Capcom really succeeded.
If traditional 3D games took the amount of attention and care that SFIV does then they can also rise to the "next level", it is easy for SFIV because they always know where the camera is going to be... so they can animate for max usage of that side view.

Really, imagine FPS's that have the enemies telegraph their every move by subtle body motion, current games do not do that at all, ok RE5 does a bit from what I played, and bosses in games tend to, but no developer has worked that type of thinking into the basics. You're going to see it happen at some point, some dev is going to do it, and that will be it, the bar will be raised and people will be like "oh shit what". It will also lead to making slower-paced action retain challenging difficulty (particularly FPS genre), it will work great with analog sticks.

anyway, all personal opinion... this SFIV KOF discussion should probably go to another thread though, we already got enough sidetracked discussion of loli's going on here.

In regards to the Cave slowdown being intentional:

I have overclocked a Gen 1 Atlus Cave board (ESPrade) to 20 MHz (from 16), and a Gen 2 PGM Cave board to 24 MHz (from 20). Both boards use a 68HC000 microprocessor that is easily overclockable with a crystal oscillator swap.

99% of the slowdown was eliminated in both cases. I wouldn't know where to start in overclocking the Hitachi SH3, but i'm fairly certain that the same principle applies.

So consider the Atlus and PGM hardware intentional slowdown myths debunked.

In overclocking your ESP.ra.de PCB, robivy64, did the 68HC000 microprocessor tend to get hotter than usual or not? And would a cooling fan help if it did?

Neither was Xiga.

And in before Rumia-Jesus pics.

Back on topic: the character selection screen looks like it came right out of that 3D custom girl thing. The camera angles reek of ThunderForce VI and the Reindeer looks like Sol Divide for some reason. And I still cannot scratch the doujin feeling both this and TFVI had. Heck, I'm reminded of the recent 'Ake-Bre'/Morning Star Girls by OHBADO sans the cool music.

Other than that, seems it's missing a lot of flak and the explosions needed more of the usual exaggeration? Gotta wait till the release and even then you never know how much stuff they can change on successive 1.5.5. Futari Black Package Reloaded and Relabelled.

TLB will be Baby Jesus and Loli Santa with a pink LSD-induced background and candy bullets!

Read around. Cave officially quit being cool w/ fan-taken video as of Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu... this marks the start of the sell out.

Proof:
1: No fan images
2: Product whoring around the 3rd Festival
3: Auto bombs

One could arguably go back and say that zero was the adoption of loli's, but that doesn't bother me too much, even though it's quite annoying.

It would be too awesome if Cave fans eventually scapegoated Yagawa, just like the Square nuts blame Enix.

insanity....
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I think I'm starting to like 3D graphics again.

pretty dead up in this ma..

anyways, location test for this game is well under way, here is a vid from youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ajss4NFXG_E&fmt=35

looks more shmuppy and actually has a scoring system as it seems, very similar to regular DS by the looks of it.
counter maxes out at 10K and its kept at that level untill you die so proboably no gigawaang style scores.

3D is still awful, animations are laughable.. just look at that ogre moonwalking in stage 1 :!: and the falling shitsausages in stage 3 jesus tittyfucking christ...

it does indeed appear to be 31khz tho which is nice i guess.

TLB?

I don't mind the graphics that much, since I grew up with blocky polygon games during the mid 90s. It sure looks way worse than standard DS though...

wow.... I was willing to reserve judgment on the 3D but some of those enemies do look quite bad.

I am somewhat shocked...... has there been any word on cave doing 3D 100 percent from now on with all new games?

Hey, it's still a new direction for Cave, they will most definitely improve in the future.

Sorry. First level looks really like a doujin. It improves a bit later on.
The huge number on bottom left is really ugly, but gameplaywise it looks fairly nice, concerning bullet patterns and chaining possibilities.
I still think that DS1 is a bit better, at least from what I've seen.
I really want to try it.
Yea right.

They really should have used better hardware. The zombies in level 1 definitely looked the worst .. everything else was just average. Oh well, at least it still looks like it plays really well.

Maybe they'll make some better models for the 360 port .. (I remember someone mentioned Cave planned to port it as well?)
