I accidentally voted 'other' after failing to read the poll options correctly :)

I drink caffeine free Diet Coke, because I dropped caffeine from my diet some months ago.

What about Red Bull Cola? Or is this only available in Austria (since Red Bull is an austrian company)?
im quite serious my mom drinks that, too. Hower i'd more consider it an energy drink flavoured with cola than cola flavoured with... energy drink

Replace don't care and don't know any better, with can't do shit about. The reason why high fructose corn syrup is in so many American products has to do with politics more than national taste. Corn growers in America receive government subsidies that helps them to undercut any competition. This allows them to make high fructose corn syrup cheaper than sugar which is seen as a "bad" foreign product "taken durr jerbs" if you will.
I still think most people don't know or care, but you're right, it's not like they can do anything about it anyway.

That's why I was wondering if HFCS is really used that much anywhere else; no other countries have a big corn subsidy like the US AFAIK.

I should give Vernor's, local ginger soda, a lift here.

Speaking of Lift, it's a UK brand (I think? I only have had one bottle, my only empty one is from a trip to Balmoral Castle) and I can't remember if it's good or not. Probably not. Lemon flavored.

I should check out RC sometime, since it's really cheap by comparison to Coke and Pepsi (no more cola wars, no more price competition, smarties).

Edit: Damn, knew I missed something. Anybody know about Bubba Cola? I don't. They might be changing their name (lol Southern stereotypes?)

Oh, I voted regular coca cola.
i love taking an ice-cold can of coke out of the fridge, gulping down a big swig and feeling that crisp caustic burn in my throat. i find coke to be crisper than pepsi.
don't ask me what that's about.

Pepsi Max (Energy) - the best sugar-free cola-variant imho :)

i have to admit that regular Coca-Cola tastes a tad better, but 37(!) sugarcubes per liter are killing me

I don't drink cola (caffeinated kinds, for that matter) much because it makes my hands all shaky (inherited familial tremors from my dad, ugh), and the diet kinds aren't my favorite drinks in the world. However, the occasional times I drink stuff like that, I'd have to say Coke or Dr. Pepper.

Even still, I prefer fruit-flavored drinks more.

I'm jealous of you people who have managed to get off caffeine. Having a job where I show up early pretty much drives me straight towards the coffee and tea...

As far as soda goes, I don't drink too much of it, but these days I mostly have calorie-free fruit flavored sodas - Fresca is my drink of choice. Especially the new Peach Fresca and Black Cherry Fresca varieties. Mmm, tasty. I'm sure the sugar substitutes and preservatives in them aren't exactly healthy, but whatever.

Before I developed said shakiness (see previous post), I used to drink caffeinated drinks a lot, and since then I've pretty much kicked it from my diet-- and here I am at nearly 3AM, and I could be up and ready to go at 8. :p

Back when I was working tech support (many years ago by now, thank goodness) breakfast on most days would consist of a bag of sour cream and onion potato chips and a 20-ounce Mountain Dew (or if I was particularly tired that morning I might go for a bottle of Jolt instead.) There were also times later on when I'd drink 3 or 4 cans of Coke a day. It would be nice to have a Coke every once in a while, but I can't have the slightest bit of caffeine without being awake until at least 3 or 4 (or occasionally getting no sleep at all) as a result.

For that matter, I try not to drink soda too often these days since I've got frequent heartburn issues too, and most of the time I'll go for one of the non-carbonated options (fruit punch or lemonade.) When I do drink actual soda, I tend to prefer orange or grape, and occasionally root beer. Since I don't drink it all that often, I'll usually spring for the good stuff (Jones or Thomas Kemper) when I do. Jones ditched corn syrup for cane sugar a couple of years ago, and Thomas Kemper appears to have recently done so as well, although I haven't had one recently to taste a difference.

Yeah 37 sugar cubes per liter but who drinks coke by the liters?? And 3-4 cans per day? That's pretty nuts man. I drink coke about twice a month. On the other hand I drink 2-3 cups of coffee daily (no cream no sugar).

Sapporo beer is for faggots. Weltenburger's Barock Dunkel and/or Leinenkugel's Honey Weiss are where it's at.

(Somehow I don't think they'd approve of me saying that, but whateva. Also Sapporo is a really dry beer so it's a matter of taste.)

3 or 4 a day shouldn't hurt, but I think anything over 3 is too much. Drinking it by the liter is also going overboard. I don't understand why people don't end up opting for milk, instant chocolate milk, chocolate milk, or something like that. Stuff like coke is nice, but it contains way too much sodium and sodium glutamate. It's nice occasionally, but not constantly.

A general rule should be: 2 energy drinks a day, 3 cans of soda/coke/pop/fizz a day, or 4 glasses of milk/instant chocolate milk a day. That's what I follow.

I also don't get why people class soda/pop/fizz as "coke". Want some mountain dew? It's a coke. The fuck?

You know, the problem is, as soon as I drink it it gets contaminated anyway ;)
But without kidding, tapwater tastes much better to me then any soft drinks you can buy.

And considering I'm inhaling contaminated air the whole day through I don't see a point in being more selective with other 'products'.

They put as much caffeine in it as is legally allowed in Germany. Quite a tasty Cola, in fact, but I like the other Fritz softdrinks better. (The apple cherry lemonade is especially great.)

That's how it was for me, but after a scare with my heart (actually turned out to be severe stress in the end!), I decided to drop caffeine because it increases heart rate among other things.

So, while dropping it turned out to be pointless in one respect, when I do get enough sleep I now feel better than before. I'm not having /quite/ as much trouble sleeping although that's always been a problem for me, but most interestingly the regular headaches I get vastly reduced when I stopped. I'd get a headache every few days, and now it's every few weeks.

Giving it up isn't fun though, you may think you're not addicted (and indeed psychologically it's really easy to just stop), but your body - oh that definitely notices. Lack of energy, back pain, nausea and headaches, all common symptoms of people coming off caffeine - yet you won't actually have cravings for it, in your head.

Why wouldn't I drink tap water?

Personally I used to drink a lot of Pepsi when I was younger. Then my parents started buying Pepsi Max or whatever sugarless pepsi that is and I got sick of it and I haven't drank a single cola soda drink in over 8 years. I guess I got enough for a lifetime, my siblings and parents still drink that shit daily while it still disgusts me -_-... Now that I read this thread I feel even better I don't touch that stuff, saves my teeth and money 8)

I drink a lot of coffee, only in the mornings though. I've never had problems sleeping or strange heart rate increases. I've heard energy drinks cause that a lot more than coffee and they mostly taste like piss so I don't touch that stuff either.

This is true. The US has huge tariffs on Cane Sugar to encourage more corn production/consumption. I've also read the tariff was enacted to stifle the Cuban cane sugar market.
Hershey Foods has moved most of their candy production out of the US for this very reason. Supposedly Cane Sugar can cost up to 700x times as much in the US than in Mexico.

Most Americans don't have any clue as to what they put into their bodies, and most don't have any idea there is even a difference between "high fructose corn syrup" and "cane sugar", everyone just says "sugar".

Also Coke~Cola insists that they do not vary their "secret formula", so some people persist in saying it is the same in all parts of the world. That is not true.

Anything made with real sugar tastes better. Starting at least 10 years ago it became impossible to find Lemonade or chocolate milk made with real sugar. Any shit you buy in the grocery store (in the US) is made with high-fructose corn syrup.

Why wouldn't I drink tap water?
That article is funny. As a product tester, I can totally understand it. People have been slapping tap water into bottles and labeling it as purified/mineral/beneficial water for years. There's next to no telling where the water itself comes from, nor is any of the information on the actual package going to be significant. It's basically a trap and I'd avoid it if possible.

But depending on where you live, some tap water can actually be harmful to you. Like I said, I'm a milk guy, and I stopped bothering with water some years ago. A lot of people are ignorant of water intoxication and how water can "expire" after 3-4 months, that sort of thing. People should be more aware of this but they're going to continue exploiting the whole "water is the best thing available in the world, it's healthy, drink it" gag until the end of time, and there's nothing that you can do about it.

I can't even say for sure, as a product tester and someone who analyzes substances for a living, where it comes from or if it's better or worse for you. Of course it'd be obvious if I end up ill from drinking it, but that hasn't happened as of yet. It's a gray area and it's going to continue to be one because people can't seem to get it into their heads that you'd be better off drinking an energy drink over some repackaged bottle water claiming it's from the springs of Rotorua.

In short, nobody can tell if pure/mineral water really is what it says it is, and I don't think drinking tap water often is wise either. I can taste the difference between the two, though. In the end I just stick to milk and don't have to deal with this.

It's based on a few things, really. Caffeine's probably the biggest factor, but the tremors also come when I do something like prolonged labor involving me lifting stuff, or when I'm overly nervous or angry. Other than that, it's barely noticeable. It doesn't really get in the way of playing shmups at all, unless I get really mad at the game, which I'd usually just quit for a while anyway if it's frustrating me that much. It's annoying at times, but certainly not a big deal by any means. :o
