eBay's shipping policies
eBay's shipping policies
Ugh. I've been living in Canada for a while and continuing to use my US eBay account. No longer. They now won't let me charge more than $4 to ship an item....any item. So screw them. I'm gonna have to use eBay.ca to sell stuff, which strangely has no shipping restrictions. I was gonna sell a 4 book HC George R.R. Martin set...and it insisted that the most I could charge for shipping is $4. Yeah right.

Its not that $4 is the most you can specify, its that you have to specify at least one $4 shipping option among them. You can specify as many other shipping options as your like (however expensive). Just put in your auction description that the 4$ option is not available to this particular item if it will really cost more.
Re: eBay's shipping policies
Random thought, I believe I sent an email to Mr. Martin 'cuz one of his books is listed in the Akumajo Dracula (SCV4) guide. True story, unless it isn't.
Anyhow, I always click "worldwide" to make sure I'm not missing stuff, it's a pain in the ass to have to do it though.

Will the auction still be valid? I have the distinct feeling that I'll get some tool that insists on using the $4 option. Wasn't sure if the text of the auction would negate that.

I've been experiencing the same scrap recently. 3$ to ship all and games and DVDs, and it's rather hard to dodge. I ended up having to send DVD box sets for 3$ because there seemed to be no way around it. The goal is simple: since they make a % on the finishing price, they want us to jack up the price of our stuff so that they get more. This is what I ended up doing, which makes the auctions a lot less appealing...
I say screw them.
I say screw them.
Muchos años después, frente al pelotón de fusilamiento...
fact of the matter is you can state in your sale that 4$ shipping is not a valid option. and refuse to send it out and just refund them automatically.

Pisses me off cause I've been on eBay for over a decade now and never had a neg or neutral...and that's a pain in the ass. Granted, I don't do a ton of transactions, but still. I'm probably gonna shift to eBay.ca, though I suspect it'll affect how much of my stuff sells.

Ebay is becoming pretty bad. I think their rating system is pretty jacked as well. I have 70 some feedback from buyers/sellers. Some guy bought a board game i was selling for my cousin. In the description i said the box is ripped from moving around. He gets the item and gives me negative feedback. In the response he states the box was ripped. Well, duh, i fucking said that in the auction in BOLD lettering. So, that one feedback dropped me just under 80%. 70 good vs 1 bad!?!?! and now whenever i sell anything the money exchange is put on-hold until one of the three conditions are met. Total BS.
What about half.com? I know its owned by ebay but they may have different rules.

I've had that happen. Stated in the auction to be nice and don't use the $4 shipping option, and winner dude paid me $4. The actual shipping came to around $16. Still, the item sold for more than what I was hoping for, so I just let it slide.maxlords wrote:Will the auction still be valid? I don't think eBay quite understands how awful Canada Post's rates are on shipping anything bigger than a sheet of paper.
It's almost like they have a monopoly or something! Oh well, that won't last forever.KindGrind wrote:The goal is simple: since they make a % on the finishing price, they want us to jack up the price of our stuff so that they get more.
Actually I think I stopped looking at feedback because it wasn't so useful to me in the sort of stuff I was buying (the same stuff this site is based around). I would check out feedback when I'm looking at big volume sellers because it's still my first line of defense against sellers that don't do due diligence, but I read the seller's comments back if left (usually that's your sign that the buyer was an idiot). Normally I just look at how detailed the page is, the seller's ability to write clearly (so I can predict if there's going to be a problem), and send a question if I have one.Lordstar wrote:no one looks at bad feedback anymore anyway becuase the feedback system is a joke
Buyer feedback was always very useless though.
i sure there already is a I hate ebay thread but i recall buying a graphics card and lots of the cables were missing and other shit too. never could get my cash back or a partial refund so I ended up selling it on stating everything you see in the picture you will get. You will need another cable to make it work. Buyer buys get its about 2 days later. email in my box sayinf
OMFG WHAT THE FUCK AM I SOUPOSED TO DO WITH THIS!!! CABLES ARE MISSING!!!!!! YOUR A FUCKING DOUCHE . . ect ect
I just linked her to the sale and explained that I said the cable was missing. I linked her to someone else cable on ebay and left it at that.
I get another email back with this in it
fine
about two days later she leave me postive feedback with item arrived sold as seen. So i gave her negative feedback for being abusive and shitty in a very polite and round about manner. Fuck her!
Ebay needs to bring back the fear to buyers! Who ever made up the line the customer is always right more than likely fucking died a penniless getting jibbed by all the shity people who exist in this world who are either to stupid to read a sales thread or fucking out to screw you over.

Not what I would describe as full, Wont fit me, will not use them again.
or something to that effect. I just negged her as Unreasonable and lack of comunication. But really what I wanted to say was she was
buyer is a fucking dumb bitch for not coming back to me as I offer a full refund as on my listing. maybe she took a little less time filling her face with cake and pie and maybe take a few mins to read the measurements and measure her fat fucking husk she calls a fucking waist she would find it easier to make correct decisions on sizing. but it just would not fit
I swear ebay brings out the worst in people. Both buyers and sellers. I think the shopping exprience on actaul stores are much much better.

This thread sums up why I'm closing my storefront
[which I only opened because Half.com takes a decade to add new titles and I had guides to unload--no more, tho]
I had a deadbeat bidder who said he decided not to pay for the item because he only looked at my username after purchasing and was offended by it
Wait, what?

Yeah, username "jen_aside"
which is the name of a character I made up and an available name, so why not. I'd meant to change it for unrelated reasons, but I didn't bother because I'd already established myself as a seller and gotten some regulars, plus 500+ others didn't seem to care, so... *shrug*
I'll change it when I go back to being a bidder only, especially since there's that whole 30 day sunglasses icon when I change my username. Don't see a reason to do it before then.

You have to jack up the price, no other option available. So auction style listing no longer works as nice as before.iatneH wrote:I've had that happen. I just sold something for $40 +$4 postage. But it actually cost $12 to ship... So the thing actually sold for $32, but eBay is using $40 to calculate FVF.
I have complained to eBay about the $4 policy, but they told me to using the postage calculator if the postage would cost more than $4. But you could only specify a US sending address....
So the only choose is more to sell at the online auction site of your region. That's what eBay telling me to do.. But there site for my region got no or very low traffic, and the number of listing under their video game section there is even less than the trading section over here....
Well the most popular online auction site of my region is Yahoo Auction. I guess it time to sell more at Yahoo Auction.

Well some buyers don't read carefully before than buy. Especially when you are selling stuffs that missing something / works only on Japanese Console, etc.Lordstar wrote:i sure there already is a I hate ebay thread but i recall buying a graphics card and lots of the cables were missing and other shit too. never could get my cash back or a partial refund so I ended up selling it on stating everything you see in the picture you will get. When you point that out to them and say there is no refund, a reasonable person would usually response in, fine, okay, that's my fault. And then left you a +ve feedback for hounror the trade.
But them leafing a -ve for them is a bit too much IMO, as they already got what they deserve for getting what they expecting for not reading the listing description in the first place.
I guess that's one of the reason why eBay no longer allow seller to left -ve feedback.
Well, actually the -ve feedback got no meaning to buyer, as most seller got no problem with that as long as they get paid.Lordstar wrote:Ebay needs to bring back the fear to buyers! I had got buyer like this too, This kind of buyer should be given a -ve.feedback.Lordstar wrote:I recall some dumb bitch bought an apron off me which i described as a Full long apron (i sell work wear say with me here guys) description had measurements with length, width, Also the length of the ties on it along with the polly cotton and also a short washing guide (yeah im that anal) any way no email to complain she just gives me this neutral commentBuyer feedback was always very useless though.
