Jesus. All this moaning about a 60 second load time that only ever happens when you first load the game up. Presumably everything else about the port is amazing, if that's the worst thing that anybody can find to complain over.

God, I love you SAM (even though every time you post I want to punch your avatar in the face)! From now on, I will be refering to leader boards as ladder boards.
Oh, it should be leader boards, I thought it was something you could climb in ranks, so ladder board....

You may want to go back about 6-7 pages in this thread and start reading.

Well, the problem with this port is the game already have a nearly perfect PS2 port before it. (just like the case with GameCube Ikaruga)

It could offer nothing meaningful other than "Black Label" mode. And thus only dead hard fan would consider buying a 2nd copy or those people who don't own the game yet would buy it. And Dead Hard Fan is picky.

Here's my two cents and my experience:

1) The initial loading time does indeed suck, and there are load times (albeit much shorter) at other times as well
2) if you install the game to the HD the load times are reduced by quite a bit, but the initial long one is still... annoying
3) The display looks really nice (I'm using non-tate 720p)
4) Controls are nice and smooth, glad I have a joystick (XBox normal dpad = fail)
5) The fact that you start with one credit only amused me, but you earn extras pretty quickly

I'm glad I bought it. :D

I am really not too sure about that, it appeared all the same to me. Still prefer playing it from hdd though, the noise of the Xbox drive is giving me big headaches.

Just to lay it out there once and for all.

With the game installed on the HDD:

Initial Boot: 24 seconds
Press Start and select memory device: 35 seconds
Select Mode: 12 seconds

Total: 71 seconds from boot to actual gameplay.

Hopefully the issue is dead now. It's just a little over a minute from power on to chaining and hypers. Once you are actually in-game, the load between stages is only 1-2 seconds, and you have an instant restart that doesn't seem to load at all. The core game is really quite solid. I ran into one bug where my controller kept rumbing after a Hyper expired, but otherwise it's been rock solid and at least as good as the PS2 port.

Is the framerate smooth? It might just be the videos posted online but it looks like there's alot of nasty frame skipping going on.

Got this pictures last Thursday in Akihabara (sorry, couldn't upload them earlier). Most people were going nuts about Star Ocean (even at my work people bought several Xbox 360 bundles with the game!)

The loading time is pretty crazy, considering sometimes it just loads a single option screen. Hope the patch fixes this. The game plays great, at least with a HARP EX-SE  Although it looks like shit on my LCD... scanlines, I need you!!!

DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou Black Label EXTRA and Shooting Love 200X at Sofmap. DDP had a phone card as a present. I got mine from Amazon at a much cheaper price without the phone card but with a nice booklet (DDP 5600 yen and Shooting Love 200X 5700 yen)
Image

This is the phone card that came with DDP at Softmap (sorry for the terrible phone picture)
Image

Nice display at Messe Sanoh. Here you could get both, a phone card (different design form the one at Softmap) and a booklet.
Image

Outside of Messe Sanoh. Pretty cool that you could try Shooting Love 200X right in the street.
Image

Hope I'm not breaking any rules at this forum... few pictures from the full color 24 page booklet that came with my Amazon order. It contains a layout of all the stages with enemies, bosses and techniques. Last page has a breakdown of all the achievements. I guess it's a way to make things easier for the beginners but definitely worth having :D

Oh, if people are interested in the different packins, here's the card I got with my order:

Seems like a lot of stores did promotions. I wonder what else there is!

Heh, that guidebook is really useful for finding all the bees.

I haven't seen any frame skipping in any of the videos I've seen.

Could someone list the viewing options?

Can you manually adjust the position/size of the screen?
Can you manually adjust the position of the meters?
Can you tate in both directions? (for computer monitors that only rotate the "wrong" direction)
Is there a respectable 16:10 tate zoomed option?

I'm just wondering if it has many options like in some other games (XBLA Ikaruga).

Has anyone got their copy from Play-Asia yet? Did it come with the booklet?

This pretty much answered everything.

I want to add that when you are using normal screen. The Aspect Ratio option becomes 4:3 and 5:4

What 5:4 for? The screen don't look like normal with that.

Normal aspect 1280x1024 LCD panels. A lot of 15" and 17" screens are like this. Nice addition if you can't run your screen with 1:1 pixel mapping, I guess.

You need a Japanese 360. It is not exactly cheap to import at the moment.

As long as your 360 is Japanese, you'll be fine. Don't know what you mean by "normal" 360...

Can't argue with actual measured numbers. A little longer than I'd like, but it's not unbearable by any means.

The framerate is smooth but the slowdown present in the other versions of the games (when fighting the bosses and such) is still in. This is a good thing in many cases.

You could also switch "Wait" to OFF. But this game settings have to be unlock. The default is ON.

I'm in Japan at the moment and noticed it went on sale. Here's my impressions so far...

- Loading times are really long, installing it to your tiny 360 HDD doesn't make a scrap of difference
- Lack of options such as positioning found in the PS2 ver.
- You can actually chain the fucking Stage 3 boss.. lol..
- The "rail sliding" enemies in Stage 4 seem to to be out of sync
- X Mode is pointless

Summary: Shitty fucking port.

i'm too tired to think of any more. I'm not very anal about this sort of thing, but I picked up Shooting Love 200x at the same time and played it a few hours today.. it seems like a much better game. There are barely any loading times present and you end up with 3 games. I suppose you can consider Black Label, Original and X Mode to be three different games but not really, but really this port is half assed and they try to cover it up with fancy menus.

I don't think the port is ever going to be released in the USA, not because of the glitches but because of the difficulty. If X Mode was selectable from the start, maybe, but then why would people want to play a HARDER game after that? They would be like "there is no point, I can just eat bullets on X Mode instead and the game lasts longer".
