played this a lot tonight... like it quite a bit. looks nice and plays great, in fact it plays as well as any 2D fighter. nothing like EX at all unlike some wish to believe.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

it stinks to see that people are having problems with their street fiytah fo sticks and controllers. i've got a TE on preorder and i'm hoping i don't have any problems with it. if i do i'm just getting my money back. not even bothering with the warranty.

and the worst part is that markman put so much work into designing these sticks, and the manufacturing end of madcatz managed to botch it so badly. he's got to be a little annoyed.

it's odd if the sticks them selves are not working liking not going back to neutral ect. that would be on sanwa's shoulders....

Not really; it's looking like a PCB issue.

hmm, i managed to get both version of the stick for around average retail value but now i don't know if i should even bother opening them and just try to resell them for small profit.

is the mortality rate high for the sticks?

the stick not returning to neutral would deffinately be a stick issue... and not PCB related.

apparently the stick actually rubs against the pcb. and can wear through the pcb if you just ignore it. stupid madcatz.....

Do you guys pick it up for the 360 or PS3? Real worried about the d-pads. It's a bit between the devil and the deep sea for me... but ultimately the ps3 d-pad is the less terrible of the 2. Thoughts?

LaserGun wrote:I've been reading about the MadCatz SFIV hardware on SRK for a bit now. I won't even think of buying this shit now. I'll list what I've read about each piece of hardware.

SFIV Fightpad -

- Complaints about the pad being uncomfortable and too big
- Diagonals are hard to register to the point it's a fluke when they do
- Directions getting stuck until you unplug the pad from the console/PC
- Shitty slow turbo speeds
- Some pads stop working randomly during play

SFIV SE Fightstick -

- Directions getting stuck + stick not going back to neutral (seems like the problem is a washer at the bottom of the stick is actually rubbing against the PCB, causing actual damage)
- Some sticks stop working randomly during play
- Minor cosmetic faults

SFIV TE Fightstick -

- Some sticks have cosmetic faults like stripped screws and scratches
- Stick has stopped working during games for some
- Some are not working with PCs due to driver issues

That's what I've seen so far, I'd just stick with modding a Hori or a custom stick, MadCatz sorting out their act really was too good to be true.
I played on the Fightpad and the SE stick this weekend at a friends and had absolutely zero of these problems after playing 2-3 hours of Soul Calibur IV and various other games. And the complaints about the pad are just wrong IMO, that thing was like butter on my thumbs, best Dpad I can remember playing on since the Saturn/Saturn PS2 Controller.

Rather than take SRK at face value (Which for the most part is made up of equal parts Idiots who can barely make a sentence without an emoticon or a lol and Super-Hardcore-Elites who are too cool for the rest of us) just buy 'em, try 'em, and if you don't like 'em, just return 'em. (MAN I wish I could have made that rhyme).

yeah... SRK is a big mixed bad. a lot of idiots on there, it's as bad as gamefaqs really, just gamefaqs for fighters.

was madcatz in charge of producing SFIV sticks for all regions? I'm not seeing there logo on the ntscj SE stick, just hori's. could that mean that madcatz didn't taint the asian sticks?

Yes, I was referring to the (rarer) complaints about TE sticks ceasing to respond. Apparently the MadCatz unit in the SE is faulty. The SE is looking like a good choice at this time only if you plan to mod it out of the box.

"Beyond cheap" sums it up quite nicely.
I dunno where to start... the ridiculously high priority throw (can cancel some attacks) that he can even pull off when you are ducking and takes 25% of your life-bar? The Ultra-Combo that can't be blocked? Those attacks that overrule the general gameplay rules? Fuck him. Seriously.

he's a bitch but really isn't that bad once you start to exploit the AI. don't jump at him (he will srk combo). don't stand full screen away from him (he will throw sonic booms at you). don't stand right next to him unless you are blocking (he can do a bunch of nasty shit at close range, only one you have to worry about is his throw) so basically just crouch-block from mid screen, wait for him to walk up tp you and sweep him. if he sucks you in, continue to block and block his first attack, then sweep him. repeat.

Sounds like someone you'd see in an SNK game as opposed to a Street Fighter.

Hey thanks for posting this. I'm in Japan and was actually really hyped for the TE stick, but it looks like it's hardly worth going out of my way for. Damn, and it got the SRK front page endorsement too! Haha

The TE stick is impossible to find due to hype now, so even if you still wanted one, it would be difficult to obtain. I'd like one as well, but MarkMan decided it would be a fantastic idea to have limited stock. They're fetching an easy $300 on ebay right now. It's a lot of hassle when you can just mod your own.

The HRAP EX2's Sanwa stick isn't so easy to mod since it uses common ground and doesn't have a PCB, but the buttons use quick disconnects. It would be a breeze to take it apart and replace them (the EX2 uses Hori buttons). This is assuming you aren't worried about cosmetic appearance or the differences in design between the TE and the HRAP.

Edit: Also, don't order from videogamecentral.com. I can't link to SRK because it's getting hammered, but basically the owner is an idiot and international shipping is $105.

picked it up today, pretty cool, i had played it a bit at gameworks before.. I ealy suck though, just focusing on unlocking the characters for now. Having a difficult time doing teleport moves, looks like it is the same as the shoryuken but it doesnt seem to work...
also for those wondering (i saw this asked somewhere on the forums) the US SFIV works fine on a Japanese region X360.
