Almost every JP game is region locked, chances that Death Smiles won't be is zero.

I'd be pretty surprised if DS was region free.

Sorry adversity, but I think you went overboard on complaints with this one. I'm still looking forward to this port.

Indeed.

I'm looking forward to it as well. Hope it gets here this weekend!

Too many snobs whining about bullshit… sorry that the Xbox 360 home console breathed on your PCB heroes.

I collect PCBs and was hoping this would turn out well. Actually I don't care so much about BLEX with the PS2 DOJ port around honestly.

Ketsui on the other hand id what i am most worried about. I would rather shell out 70.00 for a decent port than 1000 for the PCB.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

The loading times don't look bad at all. It loads pretty quickly in my opinion. (I'm talking about the initial loading time, yes)
I'm used to stuff like Soldier of Fortune on Dreamcast!

Ok, well I'm looking forward to your thoughts on the game. :D

One thing that I just noticed is that I have no idea how to save a score for the leaderboards. From last night it seems that one new score was added, besides the MS test scores that were saved there. However none of my runs have been saved, and even the ones I chose to 'record' have been recorded, but are not uploaded nor my score archived. The game is still not officially released, so maybe this will get fixed? Maybe I'm just missing some key menu option.

BTW, to select the arrange music, just go into the standard game config in any mode and switch the music to Arrange.

I've tried that, installing to HDD doesn't help, it's all the same.

I'm reminded of Silent Hill 3's initial loadup (PS2) myself, although BLEX seems a bit longer. Still, I can tolerate it if the port is otherwise good... I've always been a "watched pot never boils" guy with bootups.

On the one hand I think it's nice to have a quick play through with continues. On the other hand, it's programmed confusingly. The continue screen asks you to continue, yet you cannot. It simply shows that poor effort was put into this part of the game.

Ok, just figured out how to save scores for the leaderboard. You have to choose the 'Xbox Live Game' from the menu of whichever mode you're in. I had thought this was a co-op mode of some sort, but I guess it saves scores and replay data if you want.

Additionally, do you guys think these games will see an Asia release? Since the bulk of those games are not region locked.
I very much doubt that Death Smiles will be region free. From what I heard only a few major titles that are released worldwide at the same time have been region free in Japan. All shmups so far have been region locked. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft actually doesn't let the publisher choose in Japan but are region locking the games be default.

No Asia release announced so far. Yet again, Asia games are often only region free if another counterpart version which the game is based on is region free. Even IF there will be an Asia version, you can be pretty sure it will also be region locked then.

So many shmups out on the 360 now, go get a Japanese console. :)

I think Ketsui's going for around $800 now.

More like $900 most places. Still pretty expensive regardless.

I have no time to care...much less act on thoughts about shitty ports.

My 2 yen worth: This patching bullshit is going to hurt sales. For a micro release, you need those "on the fence" guys... the ones (like me) who are not going to bother w/ shitty load times, menus, and no scanline option.
You don't have a CRT? How do you play your PCBs?

Fuck this region locking bullshit. I have no idea why they do this, to get people stressed out? There is no reason to have a game region locked, no reason what so ever. Ketsui and Deathsmiles, I hope will be region free...

Actually strike that, I wasn't able to save my score on the leaderboards. It said that it is updating leaderboards and then when I check, none of my scores are saved. Stupid! Ex. machina, are you able to save scores? Could be a database problem or something. We are a day from official release.

I don't like region locking either, but I am already quite pleased with the situation at the moment (PS3 free, some 360 games free). I very much doubt Ketsui (same publisher as DDP) or Death Smiles will be region free.

Yeah I think the online leaderboards aren't working yet, just quickly tried this mode once yesterday!? Pretty confusing why you specifically need to select the Live option. Why it doesn't just upload a high score in normal arcade mode?

Street Fighter IV for the 360 is region free. Yes the japanese version. The shmup titles are not unfortunately.

:?
Raiden Fighters Aces is the same way…
Selecting play on 'Xbox Live' sets it up for scores to be posted on leaderboards. Xbox live mode also turns off things like changing difficulty and credits.

Odd how no one complain about it in RFA but it now become an issue in DDPDOJBLEX…

It's a shame about the lock. Region encoding seems to do little more than cheat developers out of good money from foreign consumers.

There are also a few Japanese first party games from MS that are region free. But all those games are worldwide releases. I think MS has this option so the publisher can save some money and use the same master for disc production.

Haven't heard of a single Japanese title that is region free, which wasn't a worldwide release from a major publisher.

Yeah, I'm sure that the hundred or so imported copies would net them the big cash, way more than it would be to sell the publishing rights to a western company.

Hell, I don't like region codes either and hope that they'll be gone soon, but saying that it's bad for developers is pretty ignorant.

I'm pretty sure we've had this discussion already in this thread.

Probably more than once.
