Hi
I've heard reports of people changing the batteries on their Cave PCB's due to the original battery being prone to leakage. Im just wondering whether it would be a good idea to renew the batteries to prevent future battery leakage/board damage.
Has anyone come across this? Are the batteries the same on all the boards? Does this even apply to newer boards like Mushihime-sama Futari?
Any advice/thoughts on this would be very much appreciated!
Thanks
Jason
Cave PCB Batteries - worth replacing?
Sorry, to clarify I'm speaking about SH2 boards only which have issues with leaking (Espgaluda, DOJ, Ketsui). Of course you don't have to worry about the SH3 button batteries.SinHo wrote:I assume that this is a joke ...Dave_K. wrote:Unless you have a DOJ Black Label, you don't need the battery. Unless you like to keep your settings different than default (like setting free play or something) you can just remove it.
I don't understand why people refer to the PGM boards as "SH2". They do not use a Hitachi SH2 processor, but rather a 20 MHz Motorola MC68HC000.
The 1st gen boards based on the Atlus hardware isn't "SH1" either.
I am a bit of a purist, so I replace the battery on mine. The defaults aren't bad though.

Interesting, as I always herd it referred to as SH2. I checked world-of-arcades.net and right you are! I stand corrected.robivy64 wrote:I don't understand why people refer to the PGM boards as "SH2". They do not use a Hitachi SH2 processor, but rather a 20 MHz Motorola MC68HC000.

yeah, i'd definitely replace. batteries don't last forever, and will eventually start leaking acid. last thing anyone needs is a ketsui ruined by battery acid while it sits in your cab or whatever
lithium based acid is nasty
if you search shmups chat for "ddp3 clarification" the last two pages have some good info
and i like my demo sound off, thank you ^_^

Batteries are evil, and should be removed on all games unless you intend on paying attention to them every few days or week. When you don't mess with a board for a month, that leaves all kinds of windows of opportunity for a battery simply saving your settings to ruin your game. Batteries can fail at anytime.
If you wanna see what they do, go look around on the Neo-Geo forums about people that forget their Neo MVS boards have batteries on them. That will make you think twice about ever keeping one on your board.
I got a BrezzaSoft mobo the other day; battery was dead and leaking. Needless to say, it's gone. Board saved.
Same with a Warriors of Fate I have sitting here...seller thought the thing was worth gold even non-working. I go back the next week or so and the damn thing was dripping black liquid and he immediately wanted nothing to do with it. Who had to deal with the mess? ME. All because he thought his game was worth more than it was. Fortunately the battery had blown either the same day I spotted it, or the day before.

Thanks for all the info!
If I change the battery with a new one (link below) is it still advisable to renew it in a couple of years or should the new one prove more reliable?
Varta V80H batteries. BN22Y.
