I'm actually looking forward to trying this new mode. It looks like fun (stress free relaxed gaming) to me. And as DDP-DFK isn't yet ported, this is about the closest thing right now. And if this sells the game to more people, I'm more pleased since that might bring ports of more CAVE games in the future. And you don't HAVE to use this new character.

I don't mind about the achievements so much, but 1ccing DOJ has always been something on my to do list. Today I actually managed to reach Hibachi for the first time in my entire life. I ended up dying to his third pattern (with the lines of pink bullets) but I've actually been practicing trying to chain the first stage. I've started to use hypers more often in spots where they would seem to be more useful. Hopefully with BL; I'll have more hypers to work with, and in turn a higher chain meaning more lives and a higher score.adversity1 wrote:You're definitely going to 1000/1000 it, as will anyone who puts a bit of time into it. Anyway, I'm hoping I can actually 1cc DOJ now. My best is 49 mill on stage 5, but I usually get crushed half way through.
I don't think I'll end up beating Hibachi's final form though, haha. I know that's an achievement in there somewhere. My Japanese friend, who streams daily and often makes it to the second loop, has been trying to beat 2-5 for the past year. Unless it unlocks via Death Label or X Mode. X Mode, or rather Reviewer Mode, seems kinda fun though. Daioujou isn't friendly to people who haven't played shooting games before, so I can see why it exists. I guess I'll order one of these SFIV pads while I'm at it, because this 360 pad is horrible.

I'm sure that the only people that play practice mode are those who use it to practice areas of stages, no casual player is going to bother with it.Dave_K. wrote: Obviously you haven't played the excellent Arika port, which has a practice mode where beginners can tweak everything from level, number of ships, number of hypers, rank, even no bullets mode. But thats just it, its a practice mode (actually I think called "simulation mode") not a real mode of the game. This neutered XB360 port is a joke.
You just sound like an elitist who doesn't want any new people going in and actually having fun with low-pressure mode. This "neutered" 360 port will still have plenty of difficult shit.

So... Now with the new X mode, this game is only "hard as white cock"?

...which is completely pointless if it's trying to natively run in 720p. And since you can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 32" HDTV, and given the fact that all 360 games are 720p.. your question is completely redundant.
I have a 32" HDTV myself and I think rotating it would be overkill, not to mention awkward. I'll probably just deal with yoko unless I come across a rotatable LCD soon (unlikely).

I can definitely tell the tell the difference between 720 and 1080 on this set. On my 50" Bravia the difference is certainly more striking, but 1080p is not lost on a 32" set (unless your set sucks). For this game it won't matter, but I was just curious what the output was.Elixir wrote:...which is completely pointless if it's trying to natively run in 720p. And playing a vertical shmup in Tate is overkill? Enjoy your yoko mode with wallpaper on the sides, while I rock this in its full screen glory.

If you can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 32" anything, then your television sucks. You're meant to be using the native resolution of the HDTV, not "bigger numbers mean better picture". But I really doubt you can, regardless.8 1/2 wrote:I can definitely tell the tell the difference between 720 and 1080 on this set. That isn't what I said. I said rotating a 32" HDTV and playing it in tate is overkill.8 1/2 wrote:And playing a vertical shmup in Tate is overkill? Enjoy your yoko mode with wallpaper on the sides, while I rock this in its full screen glory.
I didn't dump my CRT, but the majority of people here will play it on their monitor or HDTV. I'll be playing it on my monitor. Scanlines don't even come into the picture, they aren't going to kill the image whatsoever.bcass wrote:It is if you weren't daft enough to dump your CRT and jump on the HD bandwagon.

Is there some math to back up your claim? I'm not a huge videophile, but I'm not so stupid as to think that a bigger number means a better picture. I can clearly tell the difference if I switch my 32" between 720 and 1080p. It's not night and day, but it's not imperceptible either, especially with blu-ray discs. At what size does 1080p become noticible in your opinion?Elixir wrote:If you can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 32" anything, then your television sucks. Strange that the HD generation has so divided 2D game fans. I always run into these arguments wherever I go now. Seems like such a touchy subject, and so stupid when we're all just trying to enjoy the same games.

At what size tv? Most things that are 40"+, but it depends on whether the tv natively displays in 1080p.
1920x1080 = 1080p
1280x720 = 720p
There's a considerable increase in resolution, so the image changes. But the quality of the image is still the same unless it's a larger tv. Higher resolution on a larger tv = higher quality. You would think higher resolution on a smaller tv would be the same, but it's not.

This Aquos does do 1080p natively, but I wouldn't begin to argue that it's as fine as my big ass Bravia. My only point was that 1080p is not lost at that size, though you do need to be damn close to notice.Elixir wrote:At what size tv? Anyone know of any wall-mounts for HDTV's that allow you to swivel between horizontal and vertical? The dream would be to hook this up so I can swap easily between DOJ/Raiden Fighters and Death Smiles.

I was able to pick up the game today.
The initial loading times are horrible and really weird. I actually installed the game on HDD before playing, yet it seriously takes a minute or longer until the game is loaded. I wonder if this for some reason only happens for HDD installs, will try today to play from disc later.
Also two more seriously weird things I've noticed:
1.) The menu controls are just so confusing. You have to press "start" to confirm and get back from the options. No big deal as you can get used to it quickly, but still really weird.
2.) I just quickly played this once or twice, but for some reason I won't be able to "continue" once I lost all lives. The screen shows "continue", the numbers are counting down to zero and no matter what button I press, I am not able to continue. Not sure if I missed something here but this was kind of odd.
Apart from those issues, the game played fine, but really just gave it a quick try. I also picked up Shooting Love 200x at the same time.
Hopefully the issues will still be fixed later on, especially those crappy loading times.
