What's a good place to buy shmups

Post by the black_7 »

I'm just getting into this hobby and wondering if you guys can point me in the direction of a good place to buy shmups arcade pcbs.

I know a good number of sites that have a few shmups here and there, but is there any place that you guys know of that has a good concentration of them?

Ebay gets worse and worse every passing month.
But still, it's a good place to rake some good oldies.
Sounds obvious, but...
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

 .... ... I'm sorry I should have clarified. I know I can buy and trade some here. I'm talking about a shop that might happen to specialize in them.

No shops, unless there's some pokey ass dedicated STG store in the backyard of Tokyo. I'd recommend using Yahoo Japan for the rarer stuff, or the majority of shmups for that matter. Play-Asia have a nice selection, but they're massively overpriced. I guarantee it. Chances are you'll be able to pick up Homura for $20 off Yahoo Japan (and it come to about $40-50 after fees and shipping), or you could buy it for $60 off Play-Asia. That's what it comes down to, most of the time.

Or you could just whore out GaijinPunch.

Where are you based? Loads of cities have indie game stores that might stick shooters.

Game Focus in London for example. They've usually got a few JPN PS@, PS1, DS Saturn etc. shmups in stock.

Game Over? in Amsterdam too.

Warning. YAJ is both addictive and expensive. I'd thought those stating the fact were wrong on both counts until I started last week.
