Now it has come to my attention that there are probably a few fairly realistic shmups out there that I have missed. This is very hard to nail down but I am looking to compile a reasonable list of non-scifi non space shmups. I'm looking for lesser known games that mostly feature tanks, jets, helicopters and planes that look like 90's vehicle spinnoffs. Traditional shmups as opposed to bullet hell. Games that could look as if they were set in the 1990s. Games with serious military scenarios and more realistic vehicles.
Games like Twin Cobra the 194X series and Possibly Raiden I. I'm Just looking for dull background semi-realistic military shmups.
Warefare shmups semi-realistic shmups.

Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I am not sure if it fits but Under Defeat might do it?
It's not 'realistic' story/setting wise but it has all the vibe and feeling of a real war, and has all you mentioned: tanks, helicopters, gunboats, destroyers, etc. And you also have those small allied tanks crossing the terrain and fighting against other tanks, carpet bombing and such.

Maybe I didn't understand what you're looking for, but there's soooo many shmups like that. A bloody lot of '80s and early '90s shmups have random, run-of-the-mill military setting, from the usual Fire Shark drivel till quirkies like Bloody Wolf (
) and so on.
In the AMOS era, the Amiga was literally littered by average military shmups.
