s-video for DC and Saturn

Post by professor ganson »

Looking to upgrade my visuals for these systems. Can I just pick up whatever random s-video cables on eBay? I haven't seen any Sega official cables, so I'm just a bit worried about whether I'll really be getting an upgrade. Advice appreciated.

Neither system has component out, right?

I have an official Sega DC svideo cable. It looks really good.

VGA looks better though.

As for Saturn, svideo is probably the best your going to get outside of going RGB. However, I did notice on Panzer Dragoon Zwei that Svideo makes those rough polygons spikey looking. Compared to RGB which for some reason softens the picture.

If your going shoot em up crazy its all 2D and has little difference, so go svideo.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

No, the tv I use for tate just has s-video. I have an RGB monitor, but I only use it for arcade PCBs.

I guess I'll hunt down some s-video cables on eBay, then. Thanks for the feedback!

For Professor Ganson,

If you can get an RGB cable made for your Saturn console, you'll be delighted with the pure RGB goodness that it affords. ^_~
And if you can pick up a cheap-ass DC VGA Box accesory, your DC will look great on a regular CRT-based PC SVGA monitor with the 640 x 480 resolution. Plus an Official (or 3rd-party variant) DC VGA Box has built-in outputs for both RCA composite video & S-Video + the usual Left & Right RCA stereo phono outputs as well. So no need to go with just a lowly DC S-video cable set anyways when you can have the best of both worlds of S-Video or VGA option at your disposal with a DC VGA Box setup.
