Building a japanese cab for vertical shmups
What are some good sites that discuss how to build one? What are the basics? Thanks!
your post really doesn't make sense. candy cabs are made of metal, with lots of curved surfaces.
that being said, one person did manage to do it (out of wood!):

I guess I didn't word it correctly. How do you put together a japanese arcade? I am a total newb to arcade parts and terminology. I know japanese arcade machines use sanwa parts usually and that's about all I know. I want to put together an japanese arcade machine for like ketsui, raiden dx etc...
I was wondering, if you but a vertical arcade monitor, can u use it for any vertical shooter game?

As sven666 stated the easiest and quickest way is to buy one.
Where are you located?
Otherwise http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/
Anyone have the link for that French language forum and the homemade Egret copy.
Make sure to have a look at SuperPangs http://www.arcadeotaku.com/forum/ and the gallery of ***** so to avoid fk ups.
No such thing as a Vertical / Horizontal monitor they are the same, just depends how you mount it.

Think you will find the majority are abs plastic.antron wrote:your post really doesn't make sense. candy cabs are made of metal, with lots of curved surfaces.
nonono you have to buy a dedicated vertical monitor, a horisontal one wont do, you get black borders!!pcb_revival wrote: No such thing as a Vertical / Horizontal monitor they are the same, just depends how you mount it.

For clamchowder01,
If you decide to go with a pre-fabricated Japanese candy cabinet instead of the DIY method, a Taito Egret II cabinet would be your best bet due to the easy of rotating the 29" Nanao arcade monitor to either horizontal or vertical mode. Easy as pie. ^_~

Yeah, some idiot told me I could just turn my horizontal monitor 90 degrees, but then I had black bars AND the picture was sideways!sven666 wrote:nonono you have to buy a dedicated vertical monitor, a horisontal one wont do, you get black borders!!pcb_revival wrote: No such thing as a Vertical / Horizontal monitor they are the same, just depends how you mount it.
Most japanese candy cabs are molded fiberglass with a metal frame.antron wrote:your post really doesn't make sense. candy cabs are made of metal, with lots of curved surfaces.
WOW I haven't seen that forum in a long time. I still see my post under player projects from Dec 2004 when I first got my exceleena.antron wrote:that being said, one person did manage to do it (out of wood!):

Hey guys
Thanks for the replies!
I live in Sacramento and there are no arcades with Japanese cabs here.
I want to know what vertical monitor is compatible with what games. For me, I really want a monitor that supports many games. Will a monitor that supports Ketsui support like raiden fighters or like raiden dx?

Yep, those beautiful Taito Egret II cabinets go for top dollar in the USA. ^_~
Say, is that Sacramento, CA that you mention of, clamchowder01?
Matsu of Southern California sells them Egret II cabs if you're interested in one. He can also arrange shipping for one or two if it needed be.

EGRET II has a very nice low res monitor (NANAO 9) and a superb screen rotation mechanism, in case you would like to run a vertical game. It's quite easy to put a subwoofer into it if you like as well.

I recall some cool early 1980's arcade game cabinets like the classic color vector based Atari Games produced Space Duel cabinet had a cool built-in subwoofer for those booming & thunderous explosion sound effects, especially when your fightercraft explodes as well. Even Bally Midway's Tron arcade cabinet, had a subwoofer placed inside some of them as well, perfectly compliments playing the Tank/Recognizer stages with the ambient background sound effects. Awesome stuff indeed. ^_~emphatic wrote:EGRET II has a very nice low res monitor (NANAO 9) and a superb screen rotation mechanism, in case you would like to run a vertical game.
