US Seibu Mobo + Cart Question

Post by gunbird18 »

Hey,

Just bought a US Region Seibu Mobo with Raiden Fighters. I also own a Viper Phase 1 US Cart. I hooked it up tonight and I get a message about the 'jp1' not being in the correct position??? Does that sound right?

Anyway, I did see a thread here that talked about switching a jumper that allows some info from the new cart to be downloaded to the Mobo. And I think I understand that, but I just need to be sure of what I am doing before I attempt this 'switch'. If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it! Maybe just give me some step by step directions, so that I don't screw up the board or cart.

Thanks!

Basically what happens is, when you short that jumper, this puts the (older) SPI boards into update mode. Newer smaller boards update without the op having to switch the jumper.

When you power up the motherboard with the jumper set and the new game installed, it will proceed to 'update', which takes about 10 minutes. Once completed, you can return the jumper to it's original position and play the new game.

What happens is that some of the encrypted data is written to some flash chips on the motherboard. If this update is interrupted, you can kiss the board goodbye, as the data contained within the flash memory will be corrupted. You MUST let it complete the update.

Todd,

You can call me sometime this weekend if you want to go over it. If you're looking down at the cart, with the label rightside up and Jamma connector on top, then it is one of the little jumpers to the top right of the cart. I forget which one it is, but basically you switch it to the other position, turn the cart on and it will update. Takes quite a while to update, then you turn it off, and reset the jumper to the original position. Hope that works out. Viper Phase 1 worked fine on my SPI Motherboards here when I tested it for ya. Let me know if you need any help. Someone on here could probably post a picture of an SPI board with an arrow to the right jumper, or could correct me if I told you anything wrong.
