My haircut is utilitarian and disregards style completely. I take the dog clippers (seriously), shave both my head and my beard at the same time. Then I let it grow for about 4 months, usually until my hair is long enough that I have to start combing it in the morning for more than 5 seconds, and my beard starts to get a little scraggly and it makes me start to wonder if people think I may look homeless. Then I cut them both again. Repeat ad infinitum. :D

Something about this needs to change. Proprietary components should be easy enough to tackle. It's a complete scam that every laptop manufacturer uses different types of batteries that are incompatible with each other... and render your laptop worthless after your battery dies because you can no longer find a replacement.

Yeah, for some folks, growing a beard ain't hard to do but others, no matter how hard they try, like Lordstar has mentioned, chin fuzz results. Shaving ain't no fun but it's gotta be done whether you like it or not. Plus, I look years younger if I shave anyways. ^_~

Welll... My definition of feeling homeless is probably more lenient than yours.

There's me 5 years ago (I was 22 at the time) with about 9 months of beard growth. It now gets about that long in about 4 months. Of course the most homelessiest part of it all is the scraggles at the ends, I think if I kept it trimmed, it would probably look "neater" and more "socially acceptible"... But I think it's obvious that I don't care about conforming to such trends. (That shit takes too much time. And for what benefit? I already have a GF and she likes my beard) Thus the tri-yearly chop :D

P.S... I think this has become the most succesfully off-topic off-topic post ever. Cheers!! :D

Have you been looking for batteries for older laptops? I don't know if this is generally the case or not but I just bought a new battery for a 7-year old laptop and last fall I bought a new one for a 10-year old laptop. The thing that bugs me about laptops is the "hard drive caddy" that some of them use, basically just a random pointless connector that goes between the drive and the computer. ebay is littered with laptops that are missing this doodad. Anyway, I get your point. Now that I think about it, it makes me wonder why they spend the money to redesign laptops as often as they do. As opposed to just updating the guts with the latest chips and calling it good.

Regarding the rest of the thread I will say that I'm currently satisfied with my decades-old TV, my decades-old car, and the hair cut I gave myself a couple nights ago. Further, the fact that 1080i (interlaced!) is a 'standard' proves that the ATSC dudes were smoking some good $hit.

Haircuts haircuts. Every thread I read is about haircuts.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Back on topic to the OP's topic of HDTVs and the like. To play my arcade PCBs on my Sharp Aquos 32" TV, I resort to using an XRGB-2 upscan convertor with the scanlines option turned on. The Aquos will see the incoming signal and process it at 640p which is great. Sure, most hard-core RGB enthusiasts, like myself included, will say that using an CRT-based RGB monitor is the best way to play the classic Jamma PCBs with the usual scanlines and all. ^_~

Will there ever be enough demand to replace the aging 29" CRT-type RGB monitors with a 29" 4:3 type LCD monitor for the Japanese candy cabinets? Techincally, it would be feasible to manufacture but there isn't such a 29" 4:3 LCD monitor with 240i/240p support in that particular sized category anyways.

Back to topic jonny, please.

+1 beard here. I've had nothing but compliments since I let it grow. Every week or so I even everything out (head/beard) with a clipper set at 1. If I don't things tend to get quite hairy...
