Ultimarc PsX adaptor too dark or light, workaround?
lm1881n
Hey Ant, can you post a pic of you lm1881n circut. The scart cable on my ultimarc adaptor crapped itself
( a dry solder join on the green behind the pin, what crap!! poor quality parts)
So i wanted to make my own, ordered in a new scart and have a spare lm1881n.

It turns out I'm having this problem as well. I didn't realize it was an issue because I calibrated my monitor with the PS2 signal, so I just turned up the screen volts. But I hooked up a PC through the same RGB amp and the signal is way to bright, so I'm going to have to calibrate the monitor with the PC connected and then come up with a workaround to get the PS2 at the right levels.
why not just adjust the screen when you switch boards?
ive never understood peoples unwillingness to change settings on their monitors...different boards and types of signals display differently.....
if its too bright for your PC turn it down....you arent going to find some magical settings that are great with everything you connect to the monitor.....
you will always have to adjust for some stuff....such is life....

Messing with the screen voltage is a PITA. I have to pull the cab from the wall, grab my security torx screwdriver, remove the back panel, get back there in such a position with a screwdriver that I can reach the screen volt pot and see the screen, then carefully adjust it to the proper settings. No thanks. :/
hmmmm....on mine i just pull it an inch or 2 off the wall and when its in tate the volt knob is easily accessed just by reaching in the back.....i just use my hand rather than a screw driver.....
and i leave the back panels off my cabs.....easier....and you cant tell either way
mind you, on my new astro city with the stock nanao ms9 the only adjustment i had to make for ps2 to look good was adjusting the brightness and contrast a bit higher.....didnt have to mess with the volts at all....
then again, i havent had most of the problems everybody complains about with ps2 in a cab so.....who knows

There are cats in the apartment. If I left the back off, they would find a way to get in there and electrocute themselves, or even worse, get hair all over the monitor chassis.
If I can get it set up so that PS2 looks good with the brightness all the way up, and other stuff with the brightness all the way down, that would work, but the disparity seems so much that I would have to use the screen volt knob. I'll have to play with it a bit.

Re: Ultimarc PsX adaptor too dark or light, workaround?
Sorry to open an old thread but didn't want to start a new one seeing as it's already been talked about, is it possible to replace the caps that are on the adaptor with the 220uf caps? has anyone tried this method and not hacking the wires of ether the adaptor of monitor/loom wires?
Also is there any pics of before and after of the hack?
I also take it the adaptor all are talking about has the same pcb ether with the vga or screw terminal as this wii version,

syntax_X did you ever manage to post any pic's of your adaptor and results you got and how better they were then the ultimarc?
Many thanks
Nik
