Controllers for Neo-Geo?

Post by Gamester »

Hey guys,

I am just beginning to build a Supergun and I am looking for a good place to get a decently priced Neo-Geo controller. It seems all of the ones on eBay are anywhere from $40-$70+ bucks! I would even settle for an adapter to us a Ps1/Ps2 controller at this point. I can not find any supplier that carries adapters or controllers for Neo-geo and I have been searching on google for days.

Any help on this is most apprciated.

Thank you,
Gamester

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

The NeoGeo controller protocol doesn't use any proprietary chips or cable connectors (unless you want to use homemade controllers on actual MVS or Home system controller ports). If you have the skills to build your own supergun, you surely have the skills already to build your own controllers to go with it.

I recommend hacking up some Sega Genesis 6-button pads, as it uses the same excellent D-pad as the respected Sega Saturn controller, but at a fraction of the cost. Alternatively, any joystick you can get your hands on should do the trick too, after hacking it up.

The controller pinout can be found at gamesx.

thats what I did.... I just wired up a neo contoller port on the back of my existing stick. The console PCB didn't interfere, it works on both now.

Awesome, thanks for all the suggestions guys!

Looks like a little rewiring opens the door for several different controllers, which is really cool!

Thanks again,
