Is Shiki no Shiro 3 for Wii worth picking up?
Is Shiki no Shiro 3 for Wii worth picking up?
The US version. What do you think? I've read some reviews that left be pretty bleh, so I'd like your opinions. Does it compare to the 360/PC counterpart? Can I play with the classic controller?

Yeah, you can play with the classic controller. If you liked 2, you'll like this one. If you didn't, well you won't.
It's a little too hard though.

If you liked Shiki 2 and want a turbo-charged version, this game looks and plays great. In some ways it's even better than Shiki2: it doesn't take so long to get going and the graphics are a bit of an upgrade. As I recall, the Wii has no trouble keeping up with the fast-moving, screen-filling bullets. On the Wii I prefer playing it with the Hori stick over the classic controller.

One of the better games on Wii. Top 20 material.

I almost got this, but I got some Wii points instead. It was the last one at GameStop and I had a hard time deciding between Shikigami III, Megaman ZX, and Wii Points for MUSHA, another game, and the rest of the MM9 content. I ended up getting Wii points and then getting MUSHA, Art Style Orbient (well worth it IMO), and the MM9 stuff. I still plan to get this, though, especially with all the good things I heard.

At only $20 new, it's a definite must-get. As someone before said, it's a turbocharged Shiki 2, and while the story mode is still goofy, it's nowhere near the comedy gold/shit that was XS's "translation" of Shiki 2 and actually feels intentional versus the predecessor's combination of machine translation and "Let's play Mad Libs to fill in the gaps!"
I don't have a classic controller yet, but it's not too bad with a Wavebird.

At my local Gamestop, Castle of Shikigami 3 is priced now at $19.99 USD. I bought it when it was at $29.99 USD & have no regrets buying at the intial debut asking price. ^_~
Assuming if you can still buy the Wii Hori Fighting Stick at your local GS, you'd be able to play it properly with an Wii arcade stick. No need to resort to playing it with a classic controller if it needed be. GS sells the Wii Fighting Stick for $39.99 USD now days (that is if you can still find though -- well worth it just for the reasonable price alone). Plus, you can upgrade the stock Hori arcade parts on the Wii Fighting Stick to either Sanwa or Seimitsu arcade parts for a true world-class Japanese arcade stick spec setup. ^_~
It's either go with the cheaper Wii/360/PC versions of Castle of Shikigami 3/Shikigami No Shiro 3 or resort to getting a Taito Type X arcade mobo setup + SnS-3 kit (which consists of the SnS-3 HDD & required USB dongle key to play it with -- without it, you can't play it period) along with the obligatory tri-sync arcade monitor capable of displaying at 31kHz (since the Type X version of SnS-3 is a high-resolution arcade shmup title anyways: 640 x 480 spec) . This last option of playing the original arcade game version of SnS-3 is still very expensive and only for the hardcore arcade shmuppers who can truly afford it. ^_~

Totally not biased here, but yes, absolutely.
The stages are much harder than Shiki II's, but the bosses are easier.
The dialogue isn't as nonsensical as the second's, just well translated instead, and there's plenty moments of comedy gold to be found.
Anyone who's played as Reika knows what I'm talking about.
(See also: Kou and Fumiko's two player campaign.)
And Yukari(stage 1 boss) is hilarious with almost any character's dialogue.

I never understood the trick to the invisible block stage, I just died a lot. Good to know.
I still haven't seen all the dialogue possibilities.
The funniest so far that I've found is Fumiko and Kohtaro's, if only because Koh gets beaten to a pulp halfway through it.
Reika's is also priceless with almost anyone.
Though the final boss's dialogue is serious with almost every team. I think only Reika and Fumiko manage to get her '
' face.
Great, more campaigns I need to play.AraraSPAMWitch wrote:Game's the shit. Buy now.
Also, Roger is totally hot for Koh's junk and Fumiko hits on an eight year old, so there's really no excuse to pass on it.

And complete with voice-overs to boot. Makes me wonder who did the voice-overs for all the characters anyways (the USA Wii version of Castle of Shikigami 3). ^_~Damocles wrote:This came in the mail today and I have to say I'm glad I didn't import it on the 360.
"Die like the dog you are!"
"Ow."
The voice actress who did the American voice-over for Reika seems like she had fun with it. ^_~
