Mega Man X3...

Post by Guest »

Is anybody here really familiar with Mega Man X3, and knows how to get the Z Sabre for Mega Man in that game? I have followed the code on GameFaqs.com religiously many times, and nothing happens, so as far as I can tell, it is WRONG, or somebody just made it up.

I never played the game myself, but I vaguely remember something like this being mentioned a long time ago...I recall that in the last stage someplace you need to switch to Zero just before entering a certain boss room...apparently soon afterwards Zero is badly damaged (a la the first MMX), but leaves his arm cannon (sword included) for X to use. Sorry I don't recall any better, but again, this is just what I remember hearing...and I'm not sure whether you need all the heart/sub tanks or anything like that to make it work or not.

It works. I've done it myself but don't remember how.

BTW, I checked it from Gamefaqs.
"Sooo, what was it that you consider a 'good salary' for a man to make?"
"They should at least make 100K to have a good life"

Basically, from what I've read, it says go to doppler stage 2...then, before the first sub-boss door, switch to Zero. From there, go inside, and some bug type robot is supposed to fight you, then afterwards its supposed to kill zero then he leaves his Z-Sabre to X.

Well, I go to Doppler fortress 2. I have everything...all the hearts, e-tanks, robot armor pieces, and even the gold armor for X. I switch to Zero, right before the first sub-boss door. I go inside. Nothing happens. I tried the same thing without the gold armor. Switch to Zero, go inside, nothing happens.

Another FAQ says this trick will not work if you have already visited Vile's level. I tried it without visiting Vile's level, it doesn't work. I tried it WITH visiting Vile's level, it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong that this trick is not working?

Which version of MMX3 are you playing?
PSX
Saturn
PC-CD-ROM
?
The cheat might only work for a certain version.

I've tried on both the US and japanese SNES versions. I'm about to try the European version.

Check if these pecific cheats work for the SNES version before you frustrate.
They might only work for the PC/PSX&Saturn ports.

I've completed the the PC version & I remember reading about that specific cheat working on that.
Alas I haven't tried it though.

I remember seeing an old Nintendo Power item detailing this cheat, so I would assume that it works on the US SNES release. If I knew where that issue was (or which it was) I could even try looking it up for you...

That would be great...or if somebody who knows how to do it could even record a ZSNES demo of how to get it...

That's if I even still have the issue in question, heh. But I'll keep an eye out for it.

Okay, I managed to find the NP item. I scanned the thing in for you, maybe the images or something else therein will help.

I just played it. Got the sabre no problem. I do recall having trouble getting it the first time I tried however many years ago, but I can't recall exactly what I was doing wrong. Hmm... You are waiting until right after you get out of the water before you switch to Zero, right?

Thank you for the article scan Bullet Magnet, I appreciate you taking your time to do so.

However, those are the same instructions I've been following all along, and every time I go inside that door in the picture with Zero, nothing happens.

Heh...what water part? I don't see water anywhere in Doppler fortress level 2. Odd...

The water/bug miniboss only appear if you've beaten Vile, so... er, whoever wrote that FAQ mentioning staying out of his stage was obviously on something.

You may further need to finish Vile off using the Ray Splasher or Spinning Blade. I know this causes some minor story differences but I don't recall if the bug is one of them.

Ah, that may be it right there, as when I do finish off Vile, I always use the arm cannon. Perhaps I will use the special weapons next time and see if it works...

In case you are not using the real Mega Man X3 cart, make sure your Rom is a verified Mega Man X3 (U) [!] Rom.
Some cheats & features might not work on bad dumps.

I tried it again last night, after defeating Vile with Tunnel Rhino's blade weapon, and when I went to the doppler fortress level 2 it was filled with water. I then tried the Z-sabre cheat, and it worked.

Evidentally, every single person that took it upon themselves to post that trick to the internet, decided that they were going to leave out half of the necessary steps required to obtain it, thus leaving people like me screaming and pulling their hair out and wondering why it wasn't working.

I'm thinking about maybe writing to GameFaqs, and the people who posted that cheat, and tell them their code is WRONG because it is missing half of the necessary information required to get it.

Hell, maybe I'll even write my own Mega Man X3 FAQ.

That's really weird, having to defeat a boss in a Mega Man game with a particular weapon to unlock something...this is treading in Batsugun's territory, heh. Glad you eventually figured the thing out though.

Those two particular weapons are the most effective (damage-wise, at least) against Vile, so it isn't completely out of the blue.

Still weird though...has any other Mega Man game ever done something like that? Granted, some of the other hidden tricks were weird in their own way (having to collect an energy item and leap off a cliff several times to get the Hadoken comes to mind), but at least the only "requirement" for that was to have everything...

Well, in Mega Man 2 you absolutely HAD to defeat the last boss with Bubble Man's weapon, as nothing else would do damage, but of course, it is still a bit weird. The Z-Sabre thing is meant to be more of a secret I suppose, so they wanted to make it a challenge to get.

And that, it was...a CHALLENGE. The fact that everybody that ever posted that code to the internet is a complete idiot made it even more of a challenge.
