Easy to use amiga-emulator / good collection of amiga-games

Post by jochen »

Hello everyone - I hope someone can help me.

Over twenty years ago the C64 was my gaming-machine.
But - like many C 64-users I was interested in getting an amiga 500.

It never happened.

The amiga had many interesting shmups that I ´ve never
played. I know not everyone here loves "euroshmups" , but
I think games like Apydia, X-out, Z-Out, Blood Money
and many others should not be completly forgotten.

First: I know I may get an amiga cheap on ebay - but the space
in my flat is limited - already too many consoles and computers
here.

Emulation - the obvious choice ... but I have problems running
WIN UAE , getting Kick roms ....

Does anyone know about an easy-to-use-amiga emulator -
you search your game in a list, click on it, it loads, you play.
In other words - an amiga-emulator for dummies ???? :( :D

The other solution ... amiga-game-compilations for PC .

I know about the amiga-classix-series and already bought
some of this. But ... many games are "No-names" ( shareware,
public-domain ) or just demo-versions ... many games are
not complete.

The best solution for me would be an "amiga-shmup-collection" -
but till today using google and ebay I never found something
like that.

What I found was a site called

.... ( deleted )

They offer 3 DVD´s with 5000 amiga-games - but for
ca. 70 - 80 $ .... well ... a lot of money.

They claiim that you choose your game in the gaming list, click
on it and then play it. In other words - the thing that I am
searching for.

Surely you have to ask if this collection is legal.

Also I found no review for this product in the Internet -
I don´t want to pay good money and then nothing works.

Does anyone of you have this collection or at least heart about
it ?

Or better .... does anyone of you know a goot amiga-emulator
usable four a computer-dummie.

Thanks in advance for your responses ....

If his doesn´t work I have to spend some time of this years
vacation in learning to use WIN UAE.

Would you please delete the link? That's illegal. I'm sure that all they sell is a pre-configured WinUAE and disk images, all of which you can get for free elsewhere (note I wrote "free", not "legal"). Google is your friend (sometimes), and there are also guides how to set up WinUAE. Again, the system ROMs (kickstarts) are not free (some company still owns them); to legally get them you have to buy either a real Amiga or an emulator package called Amiga Forever.

Maybe you should consider this:

Link deleted.

Thanks for the quick response. But for others ...
if you know more than me about this ... let me know.

Cephs right,

Due to the Kickstart ROM images not being available in the public domain you must own an original Amiga to be able to (legaly) run WinUAE.

I'm sure it is possible to get the Kickstart ROMS somewhere on the web but i once tried in the past and gave up.

the best amiga site on the web is probably lemonamiga.com. they have a good active forum and if you can get advice anywhere it will be there
Now comes with Gaming Blog and Twitter:

It's incredibly easy to set up a 500 that'll run the majority of ECS/OCS games in WinUAE. Just load the Kickstart 1.3 ROM and increase the RAM chip to 1MB. That's it. Load Apidya or Denaris or whatever and it'll run, though you'll probably want to configure the display and controllers to your liking.

There are also downloadable configs on Lemon Amiga and the English Amiga Boards.

I'd recommend you use disks in IPF format whenever possible, instead of the more widely-hosted ADF images. To play IPFs in an emulator, put the dll file available on CAPS' site in its folder.

Oh, come on. Really, it's incredibly simple to use WinUAE. Moreover, you must set it up only once, and then if you save your cfg, you won't need to touch it anymore. Yes, give a look at EAB, but then again... that is a complicated board and you must trudge through a lot of techtalk to find what you need... and I feel you're not the type who wants to work too much on the technical side and just wants to play.

Configure your WUAE. It takes 2 minutes, really. If you don't want to have problems, though, you'll have to use the most compatible configuration ever.
As Mortificator says, use kickstart 1.3, 1MB Ram, 68000 chipset, 1:2 scanlines and off you go: you've got a perfect down-the-road A500 like we all used to have.
Don't increase RAM or use 680X0 or other kickstarts as it will goof your emu up. Just do it and play.
Play Apidya until you drop :D
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

Amiga Forever is supposed to be pretty good, and I'm pretty sure it's legal. It actually uses WinUAE as the emulator, but it uses some kind of algorithms to automatically detect the settings on each game to make them work properly without any hassle.
If more 2D people would go to the 2D Gaming Forum, there would be more people to talk about 2D games with other 2D fans on the tootie gaming forum. It's 2Dlicious. For real yall

Nothing is too easy - for every easy thing in the world you will
surely find some idiot who is unable to do it.

In my school time they said about me that I chop/ hack with
a saw ... of course I´ve never done something that stupid.
It was just a missunderstanding ....  :(

I was able to find all the kickstart ROM images some time ago, although I'm not sure if I have them.

Good news - WIN UAE works.

Again - thanks for everyone who helped me with this.

Jochen.

P.S:

At my first try I sucked at Apydia.
