I was on the edge on my seat the whole time watching (Type A), but even more so on 2-5. Really thought he was going to 1LCing it, and felt for him when he died at the end of the last form of Hibachi. Please, tell me this is the WR?

Indeed. I've been watching lots replays recently, and Jesus H. Christ. What struck me was the guy's sheer consistency not only dodging, but chaining while dodging. Many of those patterns were just too fast for my eyes to follow, let alone move my fingers at the same time to pilot the ship through them. I can't even start to comprehend such skill.

im pretty sure i saw HFD when i was in japan a few years ago, there was a dude at HEY! anyways that sat and 2alled DOJ BL on every credit all day long, at the time he didnt score "that well" (just shy of 2bil) but seemed to mostly just go for the clear on his runs, proboably just practicing patterns in the 2nd loop or something...
if it wasent HFD there are two crazy DOJ BL players in japan, that would be even more nuts

I know the guy you're talking about, he still comes on Sundays to beat the shit out of DOJ BL but I've never seen him get close to HFD's score (although still performs phenomenally). Of course he never puts in his initials so we can't say for sure.sven666 wrote:im pretty sure i saw HFD when i was in japan a few years ago, there was a dude at HEY! anyways that sat and 2alled DOJ BL on every credit all day long, at the time he didnt score "that well" (just shy of 2bil) but seemed to mostly just go for the clear on his runs, proboably just practicing patterns in the 2nd loop or something...

well he was also japanese, that ought to narrow it down quite a bit.
most good shmup players in japan were fairly normal looking fellas, most of em well into their 30s atleast aswell...
haha this reminds me, the good players at hey! also had their own shooting-bitch, a wierd looking dude that kept to the shadows just watching, and whenever someone was finished with his game and left the cab the shooting-bitch was there to sign in his initials and whatnot

Is it, per chance, possible to… ask him?NTSC-J wrote:I know the guy you're talking about, he still comes on Sundays to beat the shit out of DOJ BL but I've never seen him get close to HFD's score (although still performs phenomenally). Sure, but that would break the code of silence that pervades the shooter floor of HEY. A few of the nerds have a couple other buddies they mingle with, but there is little in the way of socializing that goes on. Even if a master player like the DOJ BL guy or DUG, a superb Ketsui player, manage to nail a run like they often do, no one says a thing. The most animated nerd I've seen there is AVS, the Mushi Futari Black Label God mode champion. That guy is jovial like few Japanese are and is often chatting it up with others.
Seriously though, I'll ask the guy if he's HFD the next time I see him.

How odd. Casino arcade in London the opposite. We all (at least me and a few others) all talk far too much crap!NTSC-J wrote:Sure, but that would break the code of silence that pervades the shooter floor of HEY. And that 'shooting bitch'. That is damn odd! Imagine being that guy! What a surreal existence. I wonder how it came about...

I don't think it's unique to the gaming scene. Fighting games are like that too (people stick to their clans) but if you actually have the balls to start the conversation, they're quite talky. It's just after growing up with 10 million people in your face, you learn to keep your mouth shut.
