Strat Guide
Guardians Knight - Its actually Mills & I who are currently holding up Rando's Strat Guide on DX - Apologies - I will be sending Mill's strat and sketches over to Rando hopefully in the next few days (I think Rando's in mid-move to Utrecht at the moment).
Mills (-M-) previously clocked up 17,000,000+ Loop 4-4 on Charlie Mission (Expert) in Casino arcade.

General hint that I didn't know about: To choose what color bomb you gets (yellor or red), select your stage as the lightning bolt in "Raiden DX" turns whatever color of the bombs you want.

For the third boss:cigsthecat wrote:Any advice for the third boss? I find it the hardest and usually either die at least once or waste a bunch of bombs.
The best (and only) working method I've found is to switch to Laser (BLUE) and Straight Missiles, and try to take out all the side hatch turrets on the boss (not the hatches that appear on the sides of the screen) before you destroy the green cover on the boss' main turret. To do this, you need to try and destroy the hatches with just your Laser, and not damage the green covering too much before it gets to it's stopping point.
Once you destroy all the turrets, destroy the green covering, and wait until it's fired one salvo of spreads. Quickly dash up one of the channels in the spreads, and pointblank the main turret (sit ON TOP of the turret, not in front). Watch out for any choppers that appear, and any stray bullets fired at you, and if all goes according to plan, you should take out the boss in 9-16secs.
The reason that this is the best tested method is because once you destroy the green covering on the main turret, the timer will activate, along with the main gun. If there are any hatches still active, it'll make the battle all the harder, so you need to try and take out all the side hatches before you activate the main gun, By doing so, the only thing you'll have to dodge is the spread shot (easy) and any sniper bullets from the choppers that appear

You can do it with Spread (RED) and Straight Missiles as well, saving you the hassle of having to go through the first part of stage 4 with crap weapons

I've also done it with Plasma (PURPLE) as well, by waiting for the boss to spawn all the hatch turrets before you lock on to the green covering, and then sweeping the Plasma all over the place, taking out all the turrets at once. The fastest, but trickiest method, as you have to wait until all the hatch turrets are active before you attack.
Use which ever method suits your playstyle. (using Laser is tricker to do consistently but can be much safer, but not as safe as Spread, while Plasma is good if you want to show off

Do NOT use Homing Missiles for this strategy, as they'll do too much unwanted damage to the boss. I find that it's best to leave the last Weapon and Missile powerups that appear before the boss floating around the screen - one from the red boat that sits in the middle of the screen before the two docked tankcarrier ships, and the one in the powerup box - so can make the switch from Spread to Laser when I get to the boss.
I'll popup a quick videoclip for this strat when I get one ready.
Now, if someone can help me with astrat to take on the red bomber at the end of stage 5 without expending all my cluster bombs...

Can someone please translate this for me? I have no idea what all that is.Icarus wrote:Been a while since I played this, so I'm having another go while I take a rest from Espgaluda.

Thankfully I haven't forgotten how to get all five Gold Pyramids safely. Once I record an ALL, I'll make the replay available.
Is the top number the % of enemies destroyed? Followed by # of pyramids and silos? Followed by?
Okay, got the boss replay ready.
EDIT: replay torrent now removed, to make way for ST guide material coming soon.
A little bit disappointed with the credit this replay came from. I made it to the last boss, and double KO'ed it on my last life. And would have passed 5mil, had I not missed the third Gold Pyramid (got trapped in the corner and snipered)
Ended with 4.68mil...
So close...
Yes, GUTS!. This measures your aggression in enemy kills (point blanks etc), boss repulse times, percentage of medals and micluses gained at maximum value, and time spent on one life. The higher the better.

The first one is Enemy Destruction Percentage, the second one is Gold Pyramids Destroyed, the third is your GUTS! rating.landshark wrote:Can someone please translate this for me? I have no idea what all that is.

Well, Laser does have it's uses.
Novice Mission (BETA) / Normal Difficulty
Icarus - 5,173,210 - 1-ALL - 2P

When combined with Straight Missiles, it makes an effective stage 5 boss-killing combination (52secs is my best so far). Still got caught by the enclosure attack, and had to expend three cluster bombs to stay alive, losing a lot of bonus points.
My favourite part of this run was taking out the stage 3 boss in 3.83 seconds without bombs
I recorded this credit as a replay. If anyone's interested, I can encode it and pop up a torrent. (Although I am looking to improve on this error-strewn credit a bit more)

Time for the first entry! It seems I've got bit rusty, though..I used to be able to 1cc all the way in end of level 1-8 on the arcade version few years ago.. these are made on jap imported copy, running on a PSX thats connected into jamma cabinet..

Whoa! arcade difficulty is fun! I tried once each course-
all entries are for PS version, ARCADE difficulty
training MJR 1.779.770 P1
novice MJR 1.810.800 1-3 P1
expert MJR 994.180 1-2 P1
PS.. 'xcuse me, but there is no way I can be no.1 in normal difficulty/training course.. I put ALL after score means I completed it, but there was no loop---so zach should be no.1 .. I should change it to 1-0 to avoid needless confusion

This score is a work-in-progress.
Training Mission (ALPHA) / Normal Difficulty
Icarus - 3,548,320 - 1-0 - 2P

It's remarkably difficult trying to get all four DX Bonuses properly without getting sniped by a tank. At any rate, I got 83.3% of Gold Pyramids Destroyed on this run, and am only missing the last two (was annihilated before I could get to them, so ended with 4/6 Gold Pyramids).
Training Mission is loads of fun
Great for a break from studying Novice and Expert Missions.

I thought I was going to botch another run as halfway through a tough section on stage 5, I accidentally acquired Laser. Thankfully, a powerup carrier appeared a few seconds later and I was able to regain Spread for the rest of the stage.
Although in hindsight, I should have kept Laser as that was the last weapon powerup available in the stage, and I would have needed Laser to beat the stage 5 boss in under 60 seconds. As a result, I had to rely on Straight Missiles and a bit of risky pointblanking to do enough damage, and used up six of my seven cluster bombs to keep myself alive, and just beat the boss after 75 seconds.
Never mind
The replay of this run will be made available soon. I'm also working on Novice Mission quickstrats for Rando's ST guide, coming soon.

File this death under that "stupidest deaths" topic. Full spread power, full missiles, 6 cluster bombs. I moved out of the way WAY in advance for a bullet, and for whatever reason JUST as the bullet got next to me, I strafed into it.
TV's across the room, I can't punch it from the couch

Still problems getting that 5th crystal right, but I'm almost there..! Score is almost on par with what I had 2 years ago.. you can get quite a few points from the trains in the end; also if you dont use any of your bombs it will give 50.000 for each collected bomb when the stack is full..

since the unlockable option to turn ship speed up and judgement off has been described in the ST, I´d like to ask whether there´s a sufficient number of people interested in creating a subsection for scores done under those changed conditions? Maybe I´m the only one here, but the slow shipspeed and the incoherent judgement bonus has been my main point of dissatisfaction with this game for years, and I´d like to change completely over to the different standard, even if that means it becomes an entirely different game.
@Raiden: if you want to open a new thread for the different settings alone, that's ok for me, but just in case i can add specific tables for any of the possible configurations, just let me know what you prefer

Training Mission (ALPHA) / Normal Difficulty

I think the appearance of the seventh Gold Pyramid (the one that appears at the same location as the sixth) is triggered by getting all four DX Bonuses on the trains. I missed the fourth train by one carriage, due to a split-second mistiming pressing the fire button, so ended with 6/7 Gold Pyramids
6/7 is enough for 100% though, and ended the Training with 99.1% Destruction Rate.
Came into Novice second loop, and made it to the first boss without hassle, only to be shot down while pointblanking it. Had another death before the second boss, and had to fight the boss with level 2 Laser and Missiles, and eventually (and embarassingly) crashed into one of the wing drones.
It's instant death if you have any other weapon in the loop other than Spread and Homing
Had the replay saved to memory card, but it desyncs at the start of the Novice Mission. Gives me an excuse to have another credit
