It's a console RTS... hahaha. There is nothing good looking about this game.

Guess you've never heard about Herzog Zwei or the 2nd and 3rd Kingdom Under Fire games...

Anyway this looks like a stupid RTS that tries to make up for tired looking game play by using a Halo theme. Just look at the way the warthogs just sit there as they engage the enemy. There's none of that agility that the warthog is known for. It might as well be any other anti-infantry unit pulled from Starcraft or the CnC series.

Take a look at the warthog in this trailer. That's the way a warthog is supposed to act and it's acted that way in every single Halo game...until this one.

I enjoyed "Take On Me" by Aha. The only redeeming thing about that video. Then again this was already covered on that Atari game compilation for ps2.

Well, the guy explaining the game did say that it was built from the ground up specifically for the 360, so I think it will fair better then PC RTS ports.

It still cannot be all that good. RTS is designed for pointing and selecting with a mouse and using hotkeys. Without those controls, any semblance of decent micro or multitasking at a good speed would be mostly impossible.

But I guess people manage to put up with playing FPSes with crappy controls, so maybe they'll put up with RTSes with crappy controls too. Maybe everybody will start browsing files on their PC and surfing the web or doing word processing and spreadsheets using a joystick too. I'm sure that wouldn't have any impact on productivity or efficiency, right?

You know, that's a bad argument. Using a joystick for a mouse isn't very bad at all. [I was bored, and set up XPadder to have the joystick axes mapped to the mouse, and it worked surprisingly well. Hell, it worked better than a mouse, because you didn't run out of physical room to move.]
And also, keyboard+mouse is versatile, but it's not the end-all-be-all for input. The biggest problem with FPSes is the fact they need so many buttons. When you need 6-7 buttons, not including movement keys, there's something wrong here.

PS: Also, my argument probably has flawed logic, but I typed this whole thing up, and I don't want to not post it.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Joysticks provide constant acceleration and an effectively infinite turning radius (no mouse pick-up-and-slap routine), but they suck for acceleration and pinpoint precision, which is more important for most FPSes. I'd probably rather pilot a vehicle with the joystick (or a steering wheel), but not aim a gun with one.

Similar issues on the RTS side, as kengou originally mentioned. Seems rather straightforward to me; I've played Left 4 Dead on both the 360 (for a short period of time) and the PC, and the difference in playability from one control set to the other is remarkable. It's like the dang game got ten times harder when you're playing with that joystick.

Well, there are adapters that let you plug keyboard and mouse into the 360. No clue if they work with RTS as well as FPS, though.

Did I mention that splitscreen L4D's famerate goes right down the shitter?

Not the most stunning revelation, but there you have it. I guess it's still playable, though.

No games on the 360 support that, as far as I know, and if any of them do, they wouldn't work like proper mouse aim because the mouse would be used to control the joystick input which would still provide a constant maximum acceleration. Try playing Goldeneye on Project64 using a mouse input plugin. It DOES improve gameplay because fine aiming is much better, but you still can't turn around faster than the turning rate of the joystick. This is also a problem for some really bad PC ports of FPSes.

Yeah, complex games are bad...

Halo 1 Elite: wut wut WUT

Okay the game is not excellent by any means but it doesn't suck complete ass. Game rankings seems to suggest it's an okay if average game.

Have fun trying to micro by shouting into your mic. The maximum APM for that game can't be more than 15 or so.

havn't had any problems so far,

above and beond the voice control, its simplicity allows the development of complex strategy,

compare this to the C&C tactics 101 of build up force, select all, charge at enemy.

the only RTS games I've played on consoles are anything that westwood has put out because they seem to know how to make a good gameplay on the consoles. halo wars looks like crap and should have been made for the PC than ported to the 360.

So if it looks like crap why do you want it on PC? Talk about penis envy.

Besides if you ever played the console ports of supreme commander, you'll know what's wrong with your idea.

For a PC version, you could always make a UMS map in StarCraft where the player has some Vultures and marines and wanders around the snowy tileset fighting Protoss. It'd play exactly like the Halo Wars level in the trailer.
