Chaos Field
Re: Chaos Field
Uh oh, I just noticed this. I always play on Hard difficulty with everything else default. Am I disqualified?Super Laydock wrote: Everything (except button assignments) default.

Re: Chaos Field
I never played on higher difficulty much, apart from just testing waters, so I dunno about higher bonusses or changes in scoring rewards (if their are any changes at all) on hard as opposed to default.MathU wrote:Uh oh, I just noticed this. So as long as no one gives me a reason to deny it or make a special table for it I shall leave it as it is. It´s not like playing on a higher difficulty makes the accomplishment exactly easier, right...
For completeness sake I´ll add it behind your score though, as I think it´s important to be clear about this.
BTW, congrats on the incredible improvement you made on your already high scores.
Would love to know where these scores stand internationally.
Does anyone here know about any official Arcadia or other Japanese scores???

Re: Chaos Field
There are more bullets in Hard mode which allow for significantly higher scores. Also, I find one of the final boss's attacks oddly more difficult to dodge on Normal than Hard. Personally, I don't really see any reason to differentiate between difficulty modes if a game's high score table doesn't. I do think starting shields and extend type matters though.Super Laydock wrote:It´s not like playing on a higher difficulty makes the accomplishment exactly easier, right...
Thanks a bunch. I almost had my single-credit clear that time. It's pretty much necessary for the highest scores. You can get big points on the final boss (upwards of 30 million) if you have a lot of Meta Stock or shields left. I doubt our scores are anywhere near the world records. Then again, this game was never really that popular...Super Laydock wrote:BTW, congrats on the incredible improvement you made on your already high scores.

That would be great. I've never come across any Hard mode videos or any slowdown-free Gamecube videos, for that matter. I'd love to do it but I unfortunately lack any means to record it.
MathU - 181,235,300 - 5.3 - HAL 8,430
Was even closer this time. Got to 5.2 with 4 shields left and burned them all keeping my combo going. If I can get to 5.2 with more shields or Meta Stock I can keep the combo up until it's over. I suppose I'd have already single-credit cleared it by now if I wouldn't keep trying to combo through 5.2, but I almost can't help playing for score.

Single-credit clear complete:
MathU - 219,968,820 - ALL - HAL - 9,509
For reference, it took 9 Meta Stock and 2 shields (started 5.2 with 3) to keep the combo going through 5.2 and 5.3. I finished off 5.3 with 1 shield and zero Meta Stock left. I kind of wish I had paused and checked my score before doing it, so I would know how many points killing the final boss gives with a combo of 9,509... 40 million?

I highly recommend it. I don't think you can fully appreciate this game without playing Hard mode.yojo! wrote:Maybe I'll try hard instead...

Full chained all of stage 1 now I see.
I really want to get back into this game myself and improve some more, but I'm waiting to get a tri-wing screwdriver so I can open my controllers up and finally fix their D-pads. I don't know how I even single-credit cleared this with them in their current condition, as it's incredibly annoying.
I've been looking at world records lately, and I'm thinking I can actually beat the world record with HAL. I've seen the superplay video, and I notice several areas where I can do better. However, I am absolutely baffled at the world record with Ifumi, which is not just higher than HAL's; it's more than one hundred million points higher. Before seeing that there wasn't a doubt in my mind that HAL was the best character for scoring. Now I'm terribly confused, but I WILL get to the bottom of this. I really hope it was not made by taking advantage of some sort of glitch, because honestly the game was practically designed around HAL (or vise versa).

Yeah I abused my Gamecube too much again with Ikaruga, so I'm going way easy on the drive again for a while (read: not using), so now my N64's hooked up and I'm F0Xin' it. I think I'll get another Gamecube Tuesday when I get F0GX, 25 bucks altogether unless I get something else in addition, pretty sweet deal, thanks to my heavy patronage of my local Play N Trade =P Hurry up on that tri-wing before Plasmo and MonkeyMan get in here and rape ya!

Kollision - 153,234,830 - ALL - HAL - 7,124
I was planning on improving, but then I payed close attention to the YT superplay and got my head messed up.
I kept trying to mimic the thing against my own will only to die die and die, so I guess it's time to take a break.

EDIT: played on the DC
