PC Raycrisis error
PC Raycrisis error
When ever I try playing any of my Raycrisis/Rayforce/Raystorm games on my PC I can use the config screen, but when I go to play the game it crashes to a debug error. Any idea what is wrong?

Try changing the compatibility for say Windows 95 or Windows XP. Usually if you right click a program you should get an option to change the compatibility. That is a REALLY vague message to work with. I'm guessing that the program is trying to access a resource that is not there or cannot be loaded. Try updating DirectX and OpenGL drivers too if need be. If you have the packaging make sure that it is not for something like Windows 95, contrary to popular believe some games simply cannot be played on new operating systems. You can only try partial support via changing the compatability settings. What does the debug report say?

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I had similar problem with G-Darius. Windows 98/ME compatibility mode fixed it. Those games use software rendering so drivers shouldn't be a problem.
But yeah, what Mortificator said. PC versions of Ray series are complete crap. Just get ePSXe and enjoy it's filtered, antialiased, even-better-that-the-real-thing quality.

I recently came across RayCrisis for PC and I run XP SP2. Whether I got the official patch/update from CyberFront themselves (http://www.cyberfront.co.jp/support/support.html#ray) or set compatibility mode to anything other than default or even change the Dual-Core settings to use 1 instead of 2 I cannot get this to run, which is unfortunate. I'd like to run it and if anyone has some advice (pardon just going the PS1 route), please post it.

Re: PC Raycrisis error
I can get rayforce to work on my win 7 pc but it only shows a small letter box window with the rest of the screen in black instead of showing a fullscreen picture. I dont know if its win 7, my HP PC or the wide screen LCD but too many old PC games play just the same way, even if i turn the resolution of windows down.
Re: PC Raycrisis error
Raycrisis for PC not only has the music in wav format but also offers all those awesome tracks used for the Special Mode without any of the loading times of the PSX counterpart. The bad thing is, as Limbrooke stated, that the game has annoying requirements regarding the videocard and will refuse to run AT ALL. Pretty much like RayStorm and G-Darius (CDDA music also guarantees this one to be a must-buy, Zuntata+surreal mecha fishes = win), which I also have for PC as part of one Sourcenext's "Shooting Packs".
Anyway, I have the old Cyberfront version, which is allegedly and already patched to work on XP. Your best best bet (and what did it for me) is to visit Siter Skain site (aka: the doujin saviour)

Download the proper driver according to your card (94.24 in my case, I have an old GeForce 7300GT). This not only made RefleX run at the correct speed but also unlocked all the Taito games that refused to run. That's how I managed to record that RayCrisis for PC run in Special Mode.
Hope it works for you too!

Updated to the latest GeForce 8XXX series drivers, and now the game will load. However, the game crashes at the beginning of game-play which is weak. This only happens when the updated .exe provided by CyberFront is used, I suspect it's a conflict since my version is the US/English release and CyberFront apparently only released the patch for Japan releases. Otherwise, with the original US .exe loads, sounds, and runs fine. Thanks for the advice.Observer wrote:Raycrisis for PC not only has the music in wav format but also offers all those awesome tracks used for the Special Mode without any of the loading times of the PSX counterpart. The bogus part is the requirement of a SELECT button being mapped, especially when using a USB Saturn pad.
EDIT: Also, how else to close the program pardon the usual commands, aka ALT F4 to close? Weak.

Re: PC Raycrisis error
Indeed, it might have something to do with the version. I have my computer set to japanese settings so I don't know if that also affects the game.
As far as I can remember, ATL+F4 was the combo to quit the game (also applied in RayStorm and G-Darius). A, yeah, the Saturn pad issue. Remember this is a port of the PSX version so it's done with a PSX pad in mind.

Good thing I own a copy of the PSX.
I've also played the PC version and the missing ost really hit me like a wall of bullets.
can't remember if the controls were just as bad too...
Well in any case RayCriysis Psx > RayCrisis PC.

nHancer could fix any graphics driver problem, but if it's a location error, you might have to change your region for non-Unicode programs (in WinXP) and then use NTLEA.Limbrooke wrote:Updated to the latest GeForce 8XXX series drivers, and now the game will load. Re: Re:
Pretty sure that's not the problem what with having SNS3 and Raiden 3 both installed and strictly using non-English text. Since the .exes aren't the same version and the game itself looks a bit mixed up in the menus, I'm sure it's just an incompatibility with the foreign patched .exe versus the normal domestic .exe. As mentioned the advice from Observer as far as updating the GPU drivers worked, however aside from running properly now the game has some other annoyances.Ed Oscuro wrote:nHancer could fix any graphics driver problem, but if it's a location error, you might have to change your region for non-Unicode programs (in WinXP) and then use NTLEA.
