PC Controllers - Recommendations Please

Post by Aegith »

Hello. I have an Xbox 360 controller. Problem is, all my PC STGs only recognize the stick for movement and D-Pad doesn't register. Is there a workaround for this?

Any other controller options you would recommend?

Thanks!

you could see if xpadder can recognize the d-pad, and map it to some keyboard keys. just a thought.

I use a Saitek P-220, its great for shmups. The D-pad is ultra responsive.

PS3 dpad hurts my thumbs, 360 dpad just plain sucks.

Pick up a Sega USB pad off eBay, natch.

probably the same idea as this ^, i've used software called joy2key (google it) for doing exactly what the op wants to do with a 360 pad.

think it was recommended one week in the STGT?

Thanks for the suggestions. For now, xpadder works well enough. Keep them coming for other alternatives, please.

XBCD+ drivers let you remap dpad as left stick, as well as allow triggers to act like regular buttons (with adjustable sensitivity).

And as for recommending another gamepad: Logitech Chillstream is fantastic. Same layout as 360 gamepad (IIRC there also exists version with Dualshock layout), better dpad, compatible with XBCD+, and has cooling! No more sweaty palms. But it's quite expensive, and on mine, sticks started acting weird after a while. That was easily fixed by simply cleaning the pots with compressed air, and I had no problems since.
