I used to play both games quite a lot with my older PC and I recently got myself a new one but now that I try to play either of these games I get slowdown during some certain visual effects which drops FPS greatly for short period of time. I haven't had similiar problems with any other games I've played so far.
In BWR+ seems that all explosions cause my FPS to slug down to 20 FPS making it totally unplayable specially since during stages there isn't a time when there's no explosions. Funnily the original Blue wish resurrection game runs just fine and has no slowdown or FPS issues even though I can't tell any difference between the game effects.
In RefleX some explosions drop my FPS by around 10 which is still bearable but when it comes to exploding missiles or the parts of stage 3 big religious group spaceship the FPS drops down to around 20-30 FPS. Also effects like the purple bombard lasers seem to cause slowdown. Special effects seem to be the only problem, having hordes of bullets on screen doesn't seem to trigger any kind of slowdown which I previously had on my older PC with 2 or 3 certain attacks.
The graphics card that I have is ATI Radeon 3800 HD series. I couldn't find a website for BWR+ but at least according to Siter Skain website my graphics card should be just fine. I made sure my DirectX is up to date, I've updated my graphics drivers twice, I've reinstalled RefleX (Also tried on the demo version as well), changed all graphic settings from high quality to high performace and changed game graphic settings from another extreme to another but nothing seems to have even the slightest effect so far.
For BWR+ I can manage to get rid of the problem and the game runs perfectly if I run the game in 256 colors compability mode. This does not work with RefleX however. Though if I use this compability mode the game will be even more unplayable since it bugs out all graphics and it looks like someone just puked on the screen.
I'm starting to run out of ideas myself here. Has anyone had similiar issue with these games before or know a possible solution to this? Help would be greatly appreciated.
Slowdown problem with BWR plus and RefleX.
I don't know about ATI cards, but I have an Nvidia 7800 GS and found that Reflex ran very slowly all the time, even though much more demanding games ran without a problem. On the Siter Skain support site it actually said that this was because the newest Nvidia drivers were not "fully" compatible with older cards and when I dropped back to a slightly older video driver, the problem with Reflex was fixed. So, you might want to try an older ATI driver, but I can't say for sure that will help.
Monitor refresh rate is at 60Hz and the games run 60FPS without problem until the special effects which I mentioned. It's just odd that I'm able to run the original BWR game just fine even though the effects seem identical to me.
I tried out couple different version drivers but with no luck, everything runs still the same as before. I also monitored the computer resource use during the slowdown but there doesn't seem to be anything different from running any other game normally. I can't really think of any other ways of trying to fix this. I suppose I'll just have to give up playing these games on this machine.

Too bad it's not out for Vista yet.Jockel wrote:did you try the radeon omega drivers?
can't confirm if they will fix your problem, but they get quite some extra performance out of your card.
Anyhow I changed my OS from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and the overall performance in everything is a lot better now. RefleX still has short minor slowdown during couple parts of stage 3 but it's now totally playable and enjoyable. I don't think the actual problem was fixed though. For BWR I'd say it runs multiple times faster now but it still has noticable slowdown so it's not fully playable, specially since I'm so picky about having perfect frame rates at all times when playing.
Funny how I can run perfectly games like Mushi, Ibara and dai-ou-jou on my computer that should eat up tons more computer resources but these 2 games have these issues. I guess they're both just too awesome for me to handle
