Editing Flew Fighter's BGM file?

Post by Mischief Maker »

I would otherwise love Flew Fighter, but I can't stand its music. I have a set of tracks that would be a perfect replacement for the built-in music, but unfortunately the bgm is compressed into a .dat file that 7zip can't open.

I know this is a longshot, but does anyone know what program this bgm.dat file was compiled in and/or a program that will let me open and alter it?

I've never even heard of Flew Fighter until just now.

Opened bgm.dat in emacs and googled and found out it's something called yanepack. (Here is some other page and here is the python.) This would explain why the program is YGS2000.exe. The files linked in bgm.dat are bgm.txt, Boss.MID, LastBoss.MID, LastBoss_b.MID, LastBoss2.MID, tb.mid, Tk_ST1.MID, Tk_ST2.MID, Tk_ST3.MID, Tk_ST4.MID, Tk_ST5.MID, Tk_ST6.MID, tou.mid.

I ran out of curiosity, so you're on your own past this, lol. Assuming you know some stuff about coding or development, I'm sure you can figure it out.

Did you do something special to unpack the BGM.dat file? I try doing that with yanepack and nothing happens.

Edit:

Nevermind. What I needed was the newer version of YanepackEX. Great! Now I can enjoy Flew Fighter's great bullet patterns with some decent music playing.

Thanks for the help. I didn't expect any answers at all, much less one so quickly.

Now all I need is a good sprite to replace the player's ship.

I love flew fighter so much... But I'm also not fond of the music. I wonder if you could just delete the midi's out of the pack and then play some mp3's in winamp? :D
If more 2D people would go to the 2D Gaming Forum, there would be more people to talk about 2D games with other 2D fans on the tootie gaming forum. It's 2Dlicious. For real yall

Even easier: just delete bgm.dat
