Raiden III official thread.
Raiden III official thread.
EDIT from Dylan 3/15/05 : I am making this the official news/release/impression and all around thread for the game.
Check this page for some good ones. They can be clicked on and enlarged to 480x640 res.
I really like the last screenshot to the far right for round 3. Looks pretty manic.
Do any of these shots remind anyone else of Border Down's graphics in a few spots?

Lookin' pretty. It looks like the action is zoomed in really close, though...or maybe it's just me.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Re: Nice Raiden III screens
It reminds me of a lot of 3D shooters. Maybe because it has a somewhat generic 3D style.Rastan78 wrote:Do any of these shots remind anyone else of Border Down's graphics in a few spots?
Looks fun to play anyways.
I'm not blown away by the graphics, but I wasn't really planning on buying this because of the graphics anyway. I'm sure the game play will still be stellar, and that's about all that counts to me.

Eugenics: you know it's right!
Looks like just the 3D backgrounds that are tilting around, the planes/action are still on a 2d field (same as Ikaruga in some sections). It also looks like your ship rolls slightly when moving from left to right.alpha5099 wrote: Although the odd angle of some of the shots bothers me. Some, the camera seemed to be behind the ship, while in others it seemed to be angled to the right or the left. What's that about?

Wow, these pics give a better idea of the game's visuals than any others I have seen. The game looks so crisp and detailed, and futuristic but still looks like the old games. PS2 port pleeeaase.
Wint'ogreen beam versus mercilessly manic bullets and asteroids!

High octane vanilla space base shooting, whoo:

i agree, the graphics are exactly what i feared when i heard it would be 3D.Herr Schatten wrote:I'm not impressed. Raiden II looked a million times better than that. It has too much of that "generic 3D" look to it. The asteroids in particular look really awful.
The sandworm boss seems cool, though.
I'll just wait until I see it in motion.
-green, brown, grey? check
-cold and metallic? check
-empty background? check
-generic feeling, like every other 2.5D shmup? check
-transparent explosions? check
it doesn't look like raiden at all except the "sprites", good job on that (except the colors). why on hell couldn't they keep the awesome pixel art?
like you said we have to see it in motion.
also, I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THE MUSIC AND SOUND EFFECTS.
if the music is standard techno, fuck that.
i hope the explosions are huge and cavernous.

I like 2d more than 3d for shooters, but in my opinion I'd say they stuck to the raiden 1 / 2 theme really well, there is something odd about 3d shooters in general, they feel too empty and lightweight when compared to 2d games, I'm sure it will look better in motion though.
I'm still interested in this game though... wonder if it will get a PSP port
(i'm hoping many current shooters get ported to the psp, the controls would be slightly weird rotated but it would work)
any idea how much the pcb kit will cost?

The 3D art on Raiden 2 was so well done that I would have been stunned if they were able to repeat it on todays hardware. But no, as every other 3D game, this also lacks the proper contrast and shading becasue of obvious technical limits. But then, in my opinion, Raiden 2 has the best pixel painted landscape, ever.
But then Gradius V looked better in motion, so there is hope.
And if the gameplay lives up, then I might even play it.

What Steve said. I think folks should be glad the game looks very close in gritty vanilla detail to I and II despite the fact it's in 3D.gameoverDude wrote:It may be 3D graphically, but they're keeping it faithful sure enough. I'm loving what I saw. Hopefully we'll see the PS2 version by year's end- or sooner if GWG is any indication.
