Edit:
Well, I just scored a job as the IT Administrator of a hospital in North Central Nebraska. It's only about an hour and a half drive from my hometown, and only an hour away from my brother and his wife. It'll be great getting back into the workforce and being able to really earn money again. Being on unemployment is okay while looking, but I'm looking forward to real money again. Thanks to everyone for your encouragement and to neorichie for hepling me get a resume to the company he worked for (even though that didn't pan out).

I'm looking for a job as a network admin, jr network admin, or high-level computer technician. I'm extremely frustrated w/ my boss of late as well as the threat of a 30% pay cut over the next 3 months for salaried employees - that's what happens when your technicians are expected to be sales people and they hate sales.
Anyway, my resume is currently here:

I know it's laid out a little weird (HotJobs organizes their resumes in an odd way for some reason), but if anyone works for a company looking for an administrator or computer help and could use someone w/ my skills, I'm willing to relocate. Thanks!
Update 5-31-05
It's official, I'm out of a job. My boss couldn't afford me any longer. I made too much money & the company wasn't making any. I'm interviewing (2nd interview) for a position this week, but that doesn't mean I'm not still looking. Anybody?
I found a job!!! *WAS* "I'm looking for a job"

I've actually got my resume in to 3 different temp agencies - one that I've worked w/ before who will be updating my profile tomorrow via phone. I'm hoping that will get results, but in the meantime I'm searching via any avenue I can think of. I've sent out more than 20 copies of my resume to local companies, as well as talking to just about everyone I know to inform them that I'm looking.
The problem with agencies is that your resume is simply wallpaper. They remember you when you are in the office and by the next day they have seen 20 more people with the same resume. It always seemed to me that I had about a 48 hour window to actually get a call from an agency.
The best part of the agency is when months go by and you never hear from them. Then, you might see a job they offer that is perfect for you. You call them and they have no clue you were ever there. They ask for your resume again, they re-test you on horseshit software packages. The whole temp world is a joke. Not to mention the way you are treated as a total outcast by the superior "employees" of the awful cubicle infested shithole they have sent you to.

The nice thing about the agency I'm working w/ currently is that I worked for them on several "match-hire" type positions for nearly 2 years. I worked several temp positions as well, so they know me. I was a regular employee for a long time and stopped in faithfully every 2 weeks to get my paycheck. Add to that fact that I'm in Nebraska where people are at least a little caring (so you're not just a number, as it were), and I have a slight advantage there. The only downside to that is that the really good tech jobs are usually snapped up by someone else before you get a chance at them, so it's real competitive out here.

Be carful with temp agencies bro, none of 'em here in Denver have been able to come up with squat for me-and I had a college friend who got some pretty lousy jobs through 'em, too.FRO wrote:I've actually got my resume in to 3 different temp agencies - one that I've worked w/ before who will be updating my profile tomorrow via phone. I work in the I.T department of Mastercard International. We are a technologically driven company with one of the biggest networks in the world.
Salary is moderate, I wouldn't say they pay extreme high amounts. However its based in St louis, MO and its not that expensive to live down here. We have beautiful landscaping around this building and the surrounding areas, homes, parks, golf courses are all of a high standard.
If your area of expertise is in mainframe, Tandem, Unix or Windows NT there is probably some chance of you getting hired.
My apartment is 2 bedroom and costs around $665 a month, you could easily earn $50-$65k in networking and the atmosphere is very relaxed and professional.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
!!! $665!? I'm jealous. I pay that alone with my association fee and property taxes. I hate this area. F'ing ridiculously overpriced. Chicagoland sucks.neorichieb1971 wrote: My apartment is 2 bedroom and costs around $665 a month, you could easily earn $50-$65k in networking and the atmosphere is very relaxed and professional.
Heh. That's horrible. The area I'm moving to in a month is so cheap it's ridiculous. i saw a 3 bedroom house for $650 a month. I've seen studios as low as $250 and one bedrooms $300. Supposedly the average rent for a graduate student at the University I'm going to is around $375. My rent is goin to be kinda high though ($555 for a fairly large one bedroom with heat and cooking gas included).landshark wrote:!!! $665!? I'm jealous.
