Any coin op experts out there?

Post by Paleomorphic »

Hi guys, I posted this in the wrong forum, I am a bit of a noob here so please forgive ^^ :-

Hi one and all, I'm looking for a game I used to play on coin ops when I was younger.
I have forgotten the name but it was pretty cool and I can't seem to get the tune out of my head.
It was a vertical scrolling shmup with power ups that turned the ship into a phoenix at max level.
I believe it was around between 1983 and 1990, although it may have been made before.
Does anyone know what it was called?
Cheers for helping, ~Paleomorphic. :)

It's probably R-Type. But just to make sure, could you whistle the tune, record it as an audio file and upload it?

He apologised for his mistake and was generally polite, is this what you want the forum to be like?

R-Type is a funny meme, but goddamn, it's ruined when you're an asshole with it to newcomers.

I think the elitism faggotry on the forums has raised since I first visited back in '04, since if it was as bad then as it is now, I would have looked elsewhere for a shmupping community.

welcome new guy!

Honestly- I don't condone ragging on the new guys- but I am seriously surprised Ceph's answer didn't involve pimping out his 2d forum website.

I think it's highly uncool to open the same thread twice.
Remember the other guy who made 3 threads on roughly the same topic?

proboably darwin 408 (numbers might not be 100% there), talked about it with a couple of friends yesterday actually.

your ship turns into a pheonix after the correct powerups and such.

there is also a vert scrolling shmup called pheonix from roughly the same timeperiod...

Yes, you forgot a 7.

Darwin 4078. I like the game, it gets pretty manic on later stages, problem is the bullets get so fast, you won't know what hit you...

The bullet speed isn't that bad, it's the background graphics that keeps you from seeing the bullets. I thought of Darwin 4078 as well, but the bird is black in that and not a Phoenix as in Terra Cresta.

Glad you think of me as a friend sven666, even though you keep calling me "bitch". :D

I tend to agree...

Even at it's worst, this site seems to be much more welcoming/forgiving than any other site I post on. This community is even nice to spammers!

I do remember playing a game like this either that or I am confused with something else.

Like you you say it was a good while back.

Or maybe it could be the Dragon Laser weapon from Konami Lightning Fighters?

You sure it was a arcade coin operated game.

Not played the below games but -

Final Blaster on PC Engine as a Phoenix shot/ship.

PCE Burning Angels as a supposedly Phoenix ship.

EDIT.

Yes looking at images of Terra Cresta thats the game I played.

Never played it since all those years ago - pre JAMMA edge.

Of course its Terra Cresta. We had it in our local arcade last year (in a multigame cab that is).

When I first came here I didn't know you could edit or delete a post on a forum... Maybe this guy didn't either. He even apologized... It's not like a he was being a cocky retard like the Under Defeat WR guy...

Haha, fair enough... still, it's just some harmless ribbing of a guy who probably ought to be a little more deliberate with his posting.

When I first started posting here almost a year ago I posted a thread in the "Shmups Chat" forum about trying to get people from Southeast Michigan to meet up to play Shmups. I didn't get bashed. hahahaha.

Yep, definately Terra Cresta. The nes version isn't as good as the coin op as I remember it, still owned my butt though...
Heres a link to the nintendo site:

If anyone can find a free to play version of this that is more like the coin op, drop me a line please? :D
