My R-Type Final videos on YouTube

Post by EddyMRA »

Just recently got back into playing this game. I put up two videos of some Bydo Difficulty gameplay using some unlikely Bydo ships:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_me3YlfpzE
Stage F-A
Ship used: BX-2 Platonic Love
An underappreciated, but quite formidable ship if used correctly.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvS6Xc_gQek
Stage F-C
Ship used: B-3A2 Misty Lady II
I did not complete this level since I have not memorized it completely. The laser turrets at the start of the 25th century caught me off guard, and I cannot destroy them fast enough due to the increased enemy HP of Bydo difficulty and the infuriatingly hard-to-use Nitro Spray Wave Cannon (cannot charge if any spray residue from your last WC use is still onscreen).

Amazing plays there!

I agree with one of the commentors completely, it's inspiring to see a great replay that doesn't use the Giga-Wave/Psy-Bit2/Cyclone Force ship.

For F-A, using Platonic Love isn't that odd of a choice though. The detached force works much like a Cyclone Force does, with an area of effect damage. So even though the normal shots with force attached are on the weak side, the pulsing force does a lot to make up for that. The layout of level F-A makes it an easier level to use alternate ships on than some others in my experience.

I have to give you mad props for getting so far on F-C with Mistly Lady though. That is one of my least favorite ships ever. Not only is the positioning and action of the main gun very restrictive, the damage given such an arc of fire seems almost criminally low.

The only ship I simply can't stand is the Liquid metal force ships. I simply hate those due to a completely underwhelming damage output.

I'd like to see someone use the Raincloud ship properly for once...I know it sure as heck isn't easy but...

Very cool.

Question: Why didn't you destroy the enemy ship @ 4:05?

Define "properly". About the only time there's any forward power to the Misty Lady ships is when you have Round/Eyeball bits and the red weapon, so that your bits fire forward.

I was using the battleship and the bullets it fires to build up the dose of my force for the delta weapon, which I used out of panic in the space spiders and shield enemies section.

Cool replays... happy to see this greatly underappreciated shmup getting some attention. I need to get back into this epic game...

Nice vids. I have yet to get around to playing my copy. It's waiting on my shelf.

Just curious, do you play it with stick or pad?
I find myself liking pad for horizontals (gradius v being the only one i've spent extensive time on) and stick for verts.
