XOP Black
EX2 Very Hard
Plasmo - 14,916,961 - Replay
Still the most difficult of the EX stages. In this run I bombed twice on the midboss and then couple of more times at the boss. I'm happy that I finally figured out how to deal with the huge ship during the first half of the stage, but this run was far from flawless. At least it's enough for a new highscore. Replay recorded. (although this is probably not a good watch....I'm sorry )

EX3 Very Hard
Plasmo - 4,324,521 - Replay
Aaaand another highscore. I totally didn't expect this to be a no miss (my first ever in EX3). I was close to an heart attack the last 30 secs before the boss. You'll know what I mean when watching the replay...

EX2 Very Hard
Plasmo - 17,829,089 - Replay
Used only one bomb for the midboss and was brave enough to dodge it's last pattern. No miss up to the boss, where I die once on.
Quadruple post!
I reached all my personal goals and did some replays, now it's someone else's turn.

No Miss, No Bomb and aggressive chip collecting throughout both loops. I almost gave up after dying over and over again, this game is just too long. Please don't make me play this again and play the EX stages instead, SFKhoa.
However, if you beat this score the crown is most probably yours.

hohoho, what an awesome comeback. I knew somehow, my score would spark the fire in you to try to beat it. Congrats.Plasmo wrote:Normal:

I don't think I'm going to beat that score anytime soon, but I'll take your advice and play some of the EX stages instead!
Just thought I should clear up some stuff about the scoring system. The proximity bonus is not negligible, you can get quite a bit more points by using it. It depends on your chip count though. Pretty much the higher your chip count, the more proximity bonus you get. You can see just how many points you got from a kill by the flickering number above the destroyed enemy. The proximity bonus calculation is (((140-distance)*skillMode)*coinCounter/100). Skill mode on normal would be 3, going down to 0 for easiest and 5 for very hard.
Also the chain bonus is really only useful for killing popcorn enemies in small groups. There are a few places you can benefit from it besides stage 1 ..
Don't forget those bonus portal thingies.
Also, you guys should make sure you are running the latest version. Check the readme.txt at the bottom, it should show what version you are running.
Also, about the game being too long .. I guess any game that loops will go on for awhile longer than usual. DDP, DOJ, Ketsui, etc. all loop, and I think they are actually longer than XOP Black. Psikyo games seem to take forever to beat both loops. I guess I should avoid using loops in the future, though. It's a better idea to use modes like Mushi has.
Also, if you put the game at 70 FPS speed, not only do you get a score bonus, the game will be over faster

Thanks for clearing that up! I still don't think that the proximity bonus is anywhere near as important as the DAL chips though. If you kill an enemy for example with maximum proximity bonus and a 10000 chip counter (which is usually the max you get in normal mode) you only get 70000 points for one enemy. Collecting chips with a 10k counter on the other hand gives you millions of points.Just thought I should clear up some stuff about the scoring system. What's the point of these? It's quite a cool idea, but the portals don't differ and have the same enemies everytime. They don't give a lot of points either.Don't forget those bonus portal thingies.
Now this is very annoying....I have Revision 5 and apparently you have changed a lot in R6. It's much easier to score in the normal game, I almost broke my highscore on a test run. The difficulty's also cranked up a bit. Probably the worst part: you can't play .dmo files recorded with older versions. That means noone is actually able to watch the replays I made (besides the guys playing on R5 of course)Also, you guys should make sure you are running the latest version. Check the readme.txt at the bottom, it should show what version you are running.
I would die for an EX5 stage but this revision is just annoying.
How much is this bonus and when do you get it? I noticed that it's not present in score attack, right? Also, if you put the game at 70 FPS speed, not only do you get a score bonus, the game will be over faster
So I guess you're playing on R6, because I don't think you're allowed to die even once on R5 and still get over 45mill?Reckless play....... I pretty much lost all my lives in Stage 7, and I made a stupid death at the VERY beginning of stage 8, thus GAME OVER.
SFKhoa - 46,008,260 - Stage 8
R6 is a joke
Plasmo - 51,886,296 - ALL
Died all over the place and still broke 50mill. The diffculty is actually more balanced and most of the boss attacks look much better now. I'm still frustrated that my hard earned no miss/no bomb R5 isn't legit anymore. I'll get used to it and will have a new challenge soon I guess.

I didn't realize those warp things before today, I thought they were just decorations or something. Anyway, it helps to know how to scoring mechanics work when you're making runs.
I broke Plasmo's previous 49m~ (I didn't know he made a new high score -_-) and I think I unconsciously stopped trying. I died 2 times very stupidly in stupid places. Then I got myself back together and went everything perfect from the st8 midboss again.
Also WHAT THE FLYING HELL is with this bullets shooting bullets shooting bullets shooting bullets thing. I hate dying to this stupid thing. Almost as ridiculous as those green bullet paths that follow no logic on st7 / st3 boss. I can't really understand what's with this shmup player fetish with bugs either, it's even worse than Taito with having fish and porn music like in Darius Gaiden if you ask me .
And the 'true final boss' is cool and allright but it's a little annoying because it dies too fast, I can't even get myself hyped up to that music well yet :/
I did save replay on this run but I didn't test if it worked yet and I can upload it if anyone really wants, although this was a really bad run.
As for non default settings I demand/request runs with different scoring mechanics such as fps=70 should be put on different score table if someone makes runs on it.
So you were making this game. Awesome.Udderdude wrote:Just thought I should clear up some stuff about the scoring system. I can has OST please please?
Sorry LtC, I can't let you have the first place, you will be beaten soon. Now I have the challenge where I don't want one. (pleeease play the EX stages PLEASE)

This is the worst attack in the whole game. I hate it.Almost as ridiculous as those green bullet paths that follow no logic on st7 / st3 boss.
That's true, but if you kill enemies inside the proximity range, you will get the chips anyway, because as soon as they appear they will be magnetised to you. Collecting chips with a 10k counter on the other hand gives you millions of points.
When you exit the portal, all enemy shots that were on-screen previously turn into chips. So you can let the enemies fire a lot of shots, enter the portal, blow up the guys in there (They give chips, so not sure about not giving enough points ..), and then collect all the chips from previous enemy shots. It also prevents the enemies from firing for a short time, so you shouldn't have any problem point blanking them. What's the point of these? It's quite a cool idea, but the portals don't differ and have the same enemies everytime. They don't give a lot of points either.Don't forget those bonus portal thingies.
Sorry, I should have changed that before, it was definitely my mistake. I wouldn't have changed it if I didn't think it was an improvement. I am considering adding an update check in-game, but at this point I doubt there will be any revisions, although an EX5 stage isn't out of the question. Now this is very annoying....I have Revision 5 and apparently you have changed a lot in R6. All enemy kill scores and proximity bonus are increased by 17%. It's not a huge bonus, but it will add up over time. It is present in Score Attack as well. How much is this bonus and when do you get it? I noticed that it's not present in score attack, right? Also, if you put the game at 70 FPS speed, not only do you get a score bonus, the game will be over faster
You can get significantly higher score in R6, for example my 44mill run was more or less played the same as my 64mill run. That's a whopping 20mill bonus! But besides the score boost you'll encounter a more difficult game, so if you were having problems in R5 you'll have even more in R6.
This would be just too awesome. The game seems really good now, another EX stage is the only thing missing.Udderdude wrote:at this point I doubt there will be any revisions, although an EX5 stage isn't out of the question.

I love insanity-mode.
Also, I can't seem to screenshot this game properly and my demo's are being bugged. Is there a fix somewhere?

You press F12 to take a screenshot.
What issue are you having with demo recording?
Re: XOP Black
Oh, F12. I used print screen.
Oh well, when playing the demo the ship seems to be bugged as it gets killed on first bullets, while in actual play it could reach the end of stage.
I'll try to record demo few more times.
Edit: Oh, it seems that it was only that time. Demos work fine.
