...fruitcake is pure crap? I've tasted supposedly all the best and most expensive of them (my parents were big fans of the thing), and I still think it's utterly terrible.

My "sweet tooth" covers a pretty wide range - as long as it's "homemade" not packaged, I'll generally go after it every time - some exceptions: Reese's (anything) and stuff w/ almonds in it - and toffee so...

...I really really like fruitcake...as well as rumballs, egg nog, pecan/pumpkin pie, wassel and other traditional holiday treats.

Meh. Tried a small piece once. Wasn't crazy about it. It isn't bad, but there are much MUCH better cakes out there to enjoy.

I've had it a couple of times. It's not as bad as everybody makes it out to be but it's certainly not the best thing out there either.

I'd much rather take a big glass of eggnog

In our family's annual white elephant gift exchange on Christmas Eve, there's a single fruitcake that's been getting passed around every year for at least a decade now. I don't think anyone's going to be brave and/or stupid enough to try eating that one.

The trick to eating fruitcake is to slice it thinly and put it in a large bowl along with a few generous scoops of vanilla ice-cream, and then pour some Bailey's Irish Cream all over the top.

Optional: Then remove the fruitcake from the bowl and discard.

It's usually terrible. if it's home made (by the right person) it's okay. There are many other cakes i would much rather eat though, but not carrot or german chocolate cake. whoever came up with the idea of carrot cake probably had a some sick carrot fetish. I don't understand how anyone can eat carrot cake.

There isn't any cake I wouldn't eat. Not sure about carrot cake though and if that is even allowed to be called cake. How about sellery-cake? that would suck as well!

I like cakes, too. Even zucchini and carrot versions... Yet if I had to give an award to the worst ever, fruitcake would take the cake hands down.
