Ibara, to those who watched The Lunatic...

Post by KindGrind »

I watched the p1 runs many times now, and I'm *truly* amazed. Apart from the milking on the second boss that I found effective but terribly ugly, the whole thing left me pretty much speechless. I don't think any other Cave superplay impressed me this much, and I've seen all of them except Pink Sweets.

My theory is... that I'm that taken aback by it mostly because of how bad I am at this game. I don't know, I mean many people around these boards can do real good at it, so I guess my question is...

Are you/were you as impressed as I am when you watch/ed the DVD? To those who can 1CC it (edit: or get to lvl 5-6 on 1 credit)... do you find the DVD to be an amazing, godlike display of skill?

always impressed by good runs like those in the DVDs but the guy taking DDP DOJ BL apart is by far the most impressive for me.. absoluteley ridiculous, hes a machine.

Ibara is not bad tho, just that all the milking kills the fun and makes it a dull watch imo..

I also consider milking pretty dull, and the luck element involved in that is pretty ridiculous: the superplay guys lose literally millions by losing items during an accidental bullet canceling death or an unsuccessful respawn, while the rest of the play is pretty much perfected down to single thousands of points. But apart from that The Lunatic was a very enjoyable watch. The game has great bosses!

I have 1CCed Ibara numerous times, but the INH replay is just outstanding. I watch it at least once a month and it still impresses me each time.
The most ridiculous replay ever is, as mentioned above, the DOJ BL superplay. My nipples get hard just thinking about it. [/chopperdave II]

Gonna have to vote for the DOJ BL superplay. Such a brutally difficult game .. utterly dominated. Boner++;

Aside from the stage 2 boss milk which is annoyingly cheap, plus very boring to watch, the replay is awesome - the stage 5 boss is particularly impressive.

Did Archer release a replay of his crazy scores? Its been a wee while since I followed Ibara, but I seem to remember him at least saying he was going to get an "a" score. It's been ages since I watched the INH, but I'm sure it didn't score as high as what Archer was posting on his site.

This replay isn't posted on Super-Play, is it?

No, I'd imagine it's because of copyright issues that the INH vids are not on superplay.

The superplay on the INH release shows:
Ochamania-KMT - Bond (C) - 29,171,500

Archer is the current world record holder with a score of:
ACRBond (D) - 35,800,050

A you can see, Archer's score is much higher. He at least wants an "a" score (36mill) before releasing a replay. If you ask me, we're never going to see anything. :(
The only thing (despite his very old 16mill run) he has ever uploaded is a very impressive stage 6 replay on full rank. Ibara on full rank more looks like DOJ just with a giant hitbox. :?

I've always been well impressed with the Ibara Black Label run on the Lunatic. The methods and skills the player drops on that run is just inspiring. It does put me off playing the game though as I know I couldn't even approach that level of skill.

The Lunatic DVD is very good.

The two most awesome replays for me are the previously mentioned DOJ-BL DVD, and the GODHAND Gunbird 2 video.

First pattern shouldn't be too hard. Just get to it with all rockets and make big sweeps left and right until you've knocked out most of the guns, then just make circles around it.

You can kill forms 2 and 3 in one hadou-gun by using the side-hit trick. Hit the boss on the side of it's hit box and the Hadou gun will not explode but instead just pass through and do a retarded amount of damage. If you want to actually try and dodge the boss it's a LOT bigger of a pain in the ass.

Bosses 3 and 6 are really where all the points are at though. They are really hard to learn to milk properly though, and you've got to learn to kill yourself with no lives left in stock to really max out the value.

The scary thing is, he doesn't own the WR. It's hard to believe someone still managed to beat that run.

Cheers Plasmo for the info, always appreciated mate.

@clp - you can see a triggering the stage 2 boss milk on Gakidou's replay in the hi score thread.

EDIT: The Dragon Blaze replay beats all. It's just too good

Archer's 'show off' Stage 6 replay at max rank is the greatest replay I've ever seen (even if its only 1 stage).
I think freddie has the link...

You get a rank bar in practice mode on the PS2 version. It's not massively useful but it's a nice touch.
