XBox Media Center 1080i

Post by undamned »

So I finally got around to figuring out how to ftp to my XBox and when I fired up XBox Media Center to watch some old episodes of "Psych," the menu looked so crisp and clean compared to the 480p content in the rest of the EvoX menus. My TV will display the video source type when changing channels so I tried switching to another channel an then back and the TV detected 1080i video feed. I'm not so surprised at the visual quality, as it looked every bit as clean as other 1080i content I've viewed, but I was shocked that the original XBox was capable of 1080i output. Anybody else experience anything like this w/ ye ol' modded XBox ?

You're sure that it's not just your TV upscaling the content to 1080i?

The original Xbox can do 1080i whether modded or unmodded. The console needs to be set to NTSC and have the HD AV pack. With those two together the dashboard will show the different options available - 480p, 720p, 1080i.

Sadly, performance in 1080i isn't so good. It'll also struggle to decode newer HD content in 720p.

XBMC in 720p is beautiful though :)
