Do any other emulators run Gunlock better than MAME?
I ended up deleting Gunlock(rayforce) because of it's glitchy music in MAME. Are there any other emulators that run this better?

Hrmm...I'm using MAMEUIFX32 0.123
Should I download a NEW Gunlock, is that what you're telling me?
And with configuration, what should I change?
I don't really know much about it, I just play the games in it, and I don't fiddle with the config too much.

I downloaded 128, and now it runs worse. What's up?
Where can I find the freshest dumps of these games?

The Taito F3 system is very impressive
So these 3x16mhz cpu can be pretty heavy to emulate, especially with newer mame version, so maybe your computer is too slow, I guess it would require a 2Ghz or higher with MAME 0.128
That being said, if that the case using an old MAME build would fix the problem, 0.90 should work well.
and Rayforce/Gunlock makes very good use of the hardware power.4 scrolling layers (512x512 or 1024x512) of 4/5/6 bpp tiles, 1 scrolling text layer (512x512, characters generated in vram) 4bpp chars, 1 scrolling pixel layer (512x256 pixels generated in pivot ram) 4bpp pixels, 2 sprite banks (for double buffering of sprites), Sprites can be 4, 5 or 6 bpp, Sprite scaling, Rowscroll on all playfields, Line by line zoom on all playfields, Column scroll on all playfields, Line by line sprite and playfield priority mixing, Alpha blending on playfields and VRAM layer.

How does RAINE work with Ray Force?

Huh, you shouldn't have any problems running RayForce in MAME with that clockspeed. I've experienced glitchy music in RayForce (and other Taito F3 games) on older systems, but anything with a processor 1.6 GHz or faster should be able to run it perfectly. Might be a config problem.
Last I used Raine it emulated RayForce without sound glitches, but not all the special effects showed up.

I think he actually suggested the Saturn version before editing one of his posts. Anyway...
Linky-linky.
Try downloading this, extracting it to a folder, putting gunlock.zip in rayforce.zip in its "roms" folder, and running RayForce (NOT Gunlock).

If we're gonna start down that route, there's also Rayforce in one of the Taito Memories for PS2, and I think it was in some of the XBox/PC iterations as well.Specineff wrote:Saturn.

Sorry.

i think newer versions of mame are more demanding on system specs for the F3 stuff and others...i just finished a 2.0ghz 1.5 gig ram mame cab build with .128 and it wont run any of the f3 stuff worth shit....and i even get some audio skipping on some stuff like certain neo geo games....
hell im getting lag in the metal slug games with it....
not impressed

Dont bother with Taito Memories, controls lag. Best bet is Mame or Saturn. I have every version. Both the NTSC-J version and PAL Uk ver of TM have the same controller issue. Also the PC version of TM is crap IMO.
I have noticed that devs of homebrew and public emu's like Mame and such have much better enulation than these "in house" coded emu's for company's like Capcom, Namco, SNK/Playmore ect. You would think these guys are the top coders since being paid good money and having experience. Truth is the dedicated "non paid" dev's are the one making quality emu's that are accurate and run at good speed.
Look at all the SNK compilations. They just plain terrible. Nothing will ever hold a stick to FBAXXX, Mamedox platinum, and Coinops for console emulation on Xbox.

I run Ray Force in MAME 128.1, runs as smooth as silk, no problems for me either, other than the game kicking my ass frequently.
Of course I also have it in Taito Legends 2 PC, I run that via a crack that saves my hard drive from DRM, I've noticed no lag at all.

Just tested, there was no input lag on my PS2 NTSC-J Taito Memories II Joukan.lawnspic wrote:Dont bother with Taito Memories, controls lag. Best bet is Mame or Saturn. I have every version. I have a P4 3.0 Ghz and the newest build v0.128u6 does not run it smoothly. This might be because of the massive core changed introduced in the 128 beta cycle.
Try RAINE instead: http://rainemu.swishparty.co.uk

Just tested it again myself after what Ghegs said. I still believe there is input lag. Some may not notice it, but i play alot of originals and emulations so i tell right away. Controls can be off very little and most may not notice but i can still feel it. I never really understood why this happens in emulation.

If not this may be beceause you are trying to sync audio to video, this cause all sorts of problems with some games (including Rayforce).
If you want to turn it off its under the "sound" tab, also make sure v-sync and triple buffering are OFF, that frameskip is "0" aka draw every frame and not "automatic"
MAME is in every way superior to RAINE, suggesting RAINE is just misleading people.
I use the command line version of MAME, no sync and no triple in the ini file.nimitz wrote:If not this may be beceause you are trying to sync audio to video, this cause all sorts of problems with some games (including Rayforce).
Tried it with version 128 a bit better but still jerky, then I tried it on my other
machine an Intel Duo 3.0Ghz the Duo ran it with no problems at all.
