Capcom's XBLA/PSN remake games successful...will more come?
With the great sales of both Bionic Commando and SSF II Turbo HD Remix, do you think that we'll see some more remakes of Capcom's games on the way?
Also, which ones would you like to see?
I'd like to see a remake of Mega Man 2(of course).
I would say GNG, but the PSP version is about all I could ask for, in that respect.
And i'm not counting those damn Commando and 1942 games. Blech.

Mega Man PU was way too cutesy.Mortificator wrote:Capcom already game Mega Man the remake treatment.
Personally, I'd like Konami to take a cue from Mega Man 9 and make an 8-bit Classicvania. Only pussies need to control their jumps!
I would like to see a remake of some of the Castlevanias, but I would like them to control like Rondo.

STHD Remix has me completely by the balls. It's all I've played in the past week. Really has me salivating for SFIV now. I'm hoping the success of it brings an Alpha remake (Alpha 2 please) and a 3S remake. I honestly never got into 3S because I just had no one to play it with when it was relevant. If I could play it online though, even with just the old sprites, I'd definitely pick it up.

I'm so bad at Street Fighter, it's not even funny. I am enjoying the new one, even though I have some issues with the visuals. I remember Udon's art back in Deadpool, and it has that Ameriamanga look that i'm not the hottest on. But it does look good. Except for the effect that happens when your fireball hits someone. It looks like particle effects or something. But anyway, it's killing me. Nice job with the music too.subcons wrote:STHD Remix has me completely by the balls. It's all I've played in the past week. I would love for them to do to strider 1 what they did for bionic commando, then make a big boy disc sequel.PROPER Strider sequel please.
I could deal with an oddball one like demon crest, UN squadron or forgotten wolds.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
For me a "HD-Vampire-Saviour" ( Darkstalkers) would be great -
a new Darkstalkers game in the style of Streetfighter IV with some
new characters ( how about anime-variations of Freddy, Jason,
Chucky .... ) - then I might think I am dead and in heaven.
Does anybody know if Capcom plans to sell some 2-D-Fighting-Pads
( similar to the Darkstalkers-Saturn-Pads for the PS 2 ) in the
near future ???
Some other Capcom-games I want to see - even if not in HD -
Warzard, 1944, Carrier Airwing.
Hopefully Capcom will do the same as Namco or Sega and
releases a Collection with this games above.
Jochen.

I think that for the SF4 release they're putting out both joysticks and "arcade friendly" gamepads for both the 360 and PS3, though IIRC Madcatz is making them. I'll wait for impressions of their performance before saying anything else.jochen wrote:Does anybody know if Capcom plans to sell some 2-D-Fighting-Pads

They should do high res remakes of all their arcade beat 'em ups.
Feedback will set you free.

Speaking of SSF2'HD, what happened with the art problems? I understand at one time the artist was mixing and matching bits and pieces of random Capcom promo arts (in different styles) with the original sprites, with predictably hilarious results. Then (or was this even after?) they switched the group they outsourced inbetweening to.
The game's producers cleared this issue up on the most recent Bionic Commando podcast (a facinating listen for any Capcom fanatics, whether you're interested in BC or not). Apparently when they started production they were using much more complex shading when re-drawing the HD sprites and they released early on that there was no way they could afford to continue that way. They literally shelved all of the work they had done up to this point and started again, leading to the lengthy delays.
Unfortunately early images of those designs had been leaked, causing people to be upset when they saw the final versions. Apparently shading is one of the most time-intensive parts of sprite work, explaining why SF III, while a huge step up in terms of animation, was relatively simplistic in terms of shading.
The team responsible for re-drawing the game remained the same throughout the project, though apparently Udon didn't have as much as a hands-on approach as I had assumed.
Oh, and SF III 3S, Zero 2 and Zero 3 were all considered for the HD treatment, but they went for SSFIIT as it featured far fewer frames to re-draw and they didn't want to jump right in at the deep end. Following the amazing sales of HD Remix, perhaps they will start work on one of the others.

Any place I can have a look at these older pics?Rupert H wrote:The game's producers cleared this issue up on the most recent Bionic Commando podcast (a facinating listen for any Capcom fanatics, whether you're interested in BC or not). I read all that nonsense looking up some information about my previous post, but from the pictures I saw - there was some seriously shoddy mix-and-match playset sprite customization going on. Poster art faces and expressions from a different era being pasted on top of a SS2 era torso, for example. It wasn't pretty.Rupert H wrote:The game's producers cleared this issue up on the most recent Bionic Commando podcast (a facinating listen for any Capcom fanatics, whether you're interested in BC or not). Also, if you look at the example "before" and "after" screens they showed, there was just way too much damn extraneous musculature definition going on. BEEEEEEFCAAAEK
Reading that had me curious as well. I found this: STHD Sprites. The shading was definitely more complicated at this stage. More detail in the faces/heads, and not for the better. Certainly does look weird on the roughly drawn bodies. I also found this pic:evil_ash_xero wrote:Any place I can have a look at these older pics?

Way more detail and you can see veins over the muscles. Hawk and Akuma actually look pretty good here, but I prefer the direction they took with the final product. I know Hawk doesn't look like that in the version we have because he's one of my mains. His arms and legs don't look that muscley and the shading on them is subtly more simple, plus, his face just looks meaner in that pic.

I'm not too hot on remaking any of the Alphas or Third Strike, because I preferred the art styles in those games to the one in HD remix, and I think they look good as is.
Let's remake some of the old games that are starting to show their age a bit.

I could care less if they give the graphics a face lift, though, I think that's a requirement for XBLA releases now, stupid as that may be. I just want to play them online from my couch.evil_ash_xero wrote:I'm not too hot on remaking any of the Alphas or Third Strike, because I preferred the art styles in those games to the one in HD remix, and I think they look good as is.
I know there is GGPO, but for one, I use Macs, and not for gaming. Even if I did have a PC, I just don't like sitting at my desk to play games.
You do know that you can connect a PC to a TV, right?subcons wrote: Even if I did have a PC, I just don't like sitting at my desk to play games.
This one here is just a little bit more expensive than a Wii (at least in Europe, at around €260), looks great and is not a bad choice for a cheap Mame PC at all if you're not into building one yourself:

And since the specs are pretty much the same as the netbook version...
