..Is out *now* on playstation store (EU)
Having playtested it, I think I can recommend it. It was pretty good already when it was on beta.
I don't work for housemarque though, so mentioning this won't bring me a dime - I simply thought you'd like to know
Super stardust portable on PSP
I bought it. I enjoy it but I'm a bit ticked that they held back survival mode just so they can screw me into buying an "expansion" pack. For me survival mode is the essence of an arena shooter and right now stardust feels a bit hollow with it's absence. If you use cfw and buy the game you have to boot to the cfw advanced configuration menu and turn off game plugins to get the game to run.
The Parodious and Star Soldier collections.FRO wrote:Anyone have or played this yet? My wife just bought me a PSP for Christmas, and I'm curious as to what other shmup experiences are out there, besides emu & homebrew stuff (& Gradius Collection of course

And if you're homebrew-enabled (and you should be) R-Type Delta.
I'm assuming those collections are JP releases only? Any other JP-exclusives I should know about?Jockel wrote:The Parodious and Star Soldier collections.FRO wrote:Anyone have or played this yet? The bad news is that you can't start again the game at second loop - so unless you got another hour to spend, you can't start straight at hard or elite levels - which kinda sucks at my opinion.
I heard from the developers that harder levels were unlockable at first; but Sony absolutely insisted that you cannot select them, as they "were afraid that someone might accidentally start playing on hard level and ruin his enjoyment". Right.
Also, I think that cash-in with additional features was Sony's idea too.
Did anyone read IGN's review? That was harsh!

Speaking as an earnest fan of the PS3 version and its expansion packs, I finally got an opportunity to pick up the PSP Stardust & expansion pack this week - I am greatly impressed.
I completely assumed this game would be near unplayable without a Sixaxis / Dual Shock 3, and that the terrific audiovisual flair of the PS3 original would be gone - but Housemarque have worked wonders cramming a large portion of the fun of the full game into the PSP version.
The 'hold face button for directional fire / tap face button for sweeping fire / hold all buttons for gold melter full spin' must have taken many brainstorming design sessions to get right, but it works well. Slightly uncomfortable on the hands but that's mostly due to the PSP's form factor. I had no trouble transferring over my play techniques from the PS3 version directly to the PSP port, and clearing Normal Loop 1 on my first portable play session.
Of course, PS3 Stardust running on a large hdtv is still the premium version, but the PSP version is nice to be able to play on the go. Great job Housemarque! Keep making shooters like this

Re: Super stardust portable on PSP
I'm a bit late here, but having just received a PSP Go as a Christmas bonus from a very generous boss, I choose to download this sequel to an Amiga game I always adored. It's just superb, and I just made the second loop which is far more enjoyable.
The directional shooting using the facia buttons works really well, and the Impact mode is great fun.
Buy it! The guys over at Housemarque are a sound bunch too, so go support them with some pennies of your cash!
