Double Dragon Neo Geo fighter...I LOVE IT!!
I just tried this one out on MAME, and I'd honestly have to say that it's the BEST vs. fighter I've EVER played! I absolutely love everything about it, including the brilliant scaling in the backgrounds.
How is the import PS1 port of this game; in terms of accuracy? How about the Neo Geo CD version?
Edit: OK, King of Fighters 2002 is a pretty good game! I don't like it as much as this one, but it is great. Darn, between it and MS 4 and 5, I REALLY need to get a joystick for my PS2!

Yeah, I just like it's extreme simplicity. That and the fact that the controls are INCREDIBLY responsive-I mean, keep in mind that I played this on my family's PC with a friggin' SAITEK P-220!!Shatterhand wrote:I think it's a pretty good game. Not the BEST FIGHTER EVER as Dave points out, but I think it's pretty good.
Honestly, this game has the tightest control of ANY vs. fighter I've ever played; so control-wise, I'd honestly compare it to Outrun 2.
At any rate, does anyone know how good the PS1 and Neo Geo CD conversions are? I'd like to get one of these two systems in import form, so that's why I'm asking. (And NO, I'm not gonna sell my USPSTwo-which I've had for several months now-go me!

Dave, m'boy, you need to expand your horizonsdave4shmups wrote:I just tried this one out on MAME, and I'd honestly have to say that it's the BEST vs. fighter I've EVER played!

Off the top of your head, what are all the fighters you've ever played (2D at least)?

I dunno, the home versions of Street Fighter the Movie have very fluid control unlike Double Dragon's stiffness. But if you liked the Neo Geo Double Dragon, I'm guessing you might also like Double Dragon V and Gowcaizer, both more obscure fighters that very few others enjoy.mannerbot wrote:His list probably goes a little something like this:

The PS version of Double Dragon features weird 3D backgrounds IIRC (don't quite remember if it was DD, Gowcaizer, or both). Well, not so much 3D as the camera rotates to a 3D angle, making the backgrounds look like cardboard cutouts.
I'm afraid I just can't play simple fighters anymore. I've been spoiled by complex (often too complex, really) 2D fighters...
Street Fighter III: 3'rd Impact
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
Vampire Hunter
Capcom Vs. SNK 2
Guilty Gear XX #Reload (muuuuuch better than Ikusa, which is awful)
I used to really like the KOF games, but Neowave didn't impress me much, and 2003 wasn't too hot either. ... For that matter, neither were 2002, 2001, or 2000. 1999 was excellent, however.

My local Maebashi arcade used to have 6 #Reload machines and 2 (or 4, I forget) Isuka machines. The #Reload ones are still there, but the Isuka machines are gone. It's the first time I've ever seen a game get removed before it's prequel. It really is that awful.LoneSage wrote:The worst Guilty Gear, hands down. Rent it to see how it is, and then cry at what Arc Systems did.

No, more like Street Fighter 2, Last Blade 2, King of Fighters 2002, and Marvel vs. Capcom, and Karnov's Revenge. Oh, and another Street Fighter game who's name eludes me-though I'm pretty sure it was 3rd Strike.mannerbot wrote:His list probably goes a little something like this:

All of which I like, except for the Street Fighter games; which hand me my arse on a silver platter EVERY time I play 'em! Plus, I just think the whole Street Fighter series is very overrated-I tend to like vs fighters that have weapons in them the most; I should really check out Soul Calibur II sometime.
Thanks for the feedback on the PS1 version Ganelon; I should've figured that it probably is a lot worse looking then the Neo CD version

*shrugs* It's by far the simplest 2D non-weapons-based vs. fighter that I've encountered-and like I said before, the control is VERY tight as well.Shatterhand wrote:I don't remember Double Dragon being THAT simple. It's not a hit and miss affair like, say, every Dragon Ball Z or the earlier Fatal Fury games. The game had some nice combos, and some counter-attack stuff.
With all the King of Fighters games available for play on the PS2, I just REALLY wish SNK, Capcom, or SOMEONE would resurrect the 2D scrolling fighter.

Y'know it's funny that I played both Street Fighter 2 and Final Fight (along with numerous other games, including Assault, and Willow) at my local recreation center. They usally only had 2 games, but the quality of the games they had matched, if not exceeded, that of my local arcade! I mean, this is supposed to be a place where people get EXERCISE!

Oh well, I guess they figured that gaming was a good way to wind down after a work out-personally, I found gaming got me pumped for a workout!.

Yup. That's why it's famous... or more correctly, infamous. It's still leaps and bounds better than a few of the lesser-known crap fighting games though...Specineff wrote:Wasn't Rise of the Robots a piece of disappointing crap?
Kasumi Ninja
Fight For Life
Shadow: War of Succession (this game gets my vote as being the worst game ever)

I remember at least with Rebecca, you could do a dash, make 3 hits and link it up with her "flying punch" for a 5-hit combo, and there was some stuff like this with that ninja character too.
Or am I just going nuts here?
I played this game a lot back in 98, when I find out Neo-Rage and neo-geo emulation. Back at that time, Double Dragon was the best Neo-Geo fighter my humble machine could run
So me and friends would play it a lot.

That was the PSX port of Gowcaizer that had the cut-out effect (which the publishers promoted as "DIORAMA!!11~oneoneeleven").Ganelon wrote:I dunno, the home versions of Street Fighter the Movie have very fluid control unlike Double Dragon's stiffness.
