There is no Eternal Complete. Here's how it works:

Ys Eternal: Came out in 1997, not really better than the Saturn version
Ys II Eternal: 2000-ish, a huge step up from Ys Eternal
Ys I&II Complete: Brought Ys I up to Ys II Complete level of graphics and a new remixed soundtrack done in the style of the PC-8801 original.
Ys I&II Eternal Story: Lackluster but serviceable port of Complete for PS2 by DigiCube with crap MIDI music, voice overs and loading times.

Ys I&II *Complete* is the best version of the two games, bar none. It has fantastic 2D graphics that are at twice the resolution of the PCE and Saturn versions, with all the nice additions from the Saturn version like running and moving 8 directions. Also has the prettiest intros. :) It is a perfect example of how 2D gaming can and should still be done in the modern gaming world, and pretty much what even got me into Falcom in the first place.

I really am not a fan of the PCE version of I and II. I think it's cheesy and slow moving. :) I'd rather play the original versions (PC-88 )
The non-gaming content in Digicube's release is awesome though.
I did want to build a mini Ys / Esteria diorama with fluffy cotton clouds but I never gotten around doing it.

My cute bottlecaps are collecting dust since that thing got released :?

Off topic: Kozo, you know a good place on the net for Xanadu maps?
That game is kicking my ass!

Shouldn't be any trouble leaving Dash on. At least on Normal, there aren't any "run, don't dash" moments, and walking can always be toggled on.

Has anybody played Falcom's Gensosangokushi, Legend of Heroes, or Vantage Master (i.e. VM Japan) games? They look pretty sweet.

Just wanted to drop by and just say that Oath in Felghana is the shit and everyone should play it.

That said, there's considerable differences between Ys6 PC and PS2:

- PC has gore. When you kill enemies, they blow up in pieces and you can see the blood, whereas in the PS2 they have this radiance effect and disappear.

- PC has better looking graphics. There's some effects missing in the PS2 version and the art for people is lower res.

- PC uses super deformed sprites. PS2 uses polygonal models. They both have their advantages. The sprites are more charming and somewhat fit better with the game's style, but you got better animation and your armor changes with the polygonal models.

- PS2 version has voice acting and other extras. They're kinda meh.

- PS2 version has "Alma trials" a bunch of dungeons with recycled content. They're good for leveling up but are rather uninspired.
"Sooo, what was it that you consider a 'good salary' for a man to make?"
"They should at least make 100K to have a good life"

Gensosangokushi: Only started the 2nd one. This series is made by UserJoy, Falcom only translated them.

Legend of Heroes: Ignore the generic title, this is a great series. The first two are a bit weak, but old school RPG fun. LoH3 on are great - 3 is called "the poetic RPG" for a reason. IV and V round out the Gagharv Trilogy III started. However, ignore the NA PSP ports at all costs. They are horrible Babelfish translations and lose the main thing LoH has going for it - the dialogue. VI, aka Sora no Kiseki, is split into three games - FC (first chapter), SC (second chapter) and TC/The 3rd. These were on PC then ported to PSP by Falcom themselves, so they are GOOD ports. No English yet though, if ever. I know someone who is starting a PC translation of the trilogy. All three have done well and are Falcom's biggest hit in recent times.

VM: Vantage Master is free and in English from Falcom's download page. VMJ is pretty cool and a big pile of fun! :D Think Langrisser - Story - Dialogue + Fuedal Japan. Yeah. :D Never tried VMP yet.

Also, Brandish is being remade for the PSP only (at least right now). Looks great if you like old-school action RPG/dungeon crawling/Falcom awesomez. Curse Falcom for moving away from PC releases though... :(

Yes looks very good, and that's coming from a "Brandish elitist" that absolutely despises the console ports...

But it looks like it still lacks the Map draw feature, and that's the reason I can't stand the console ports, without it it's impossible to get 100% map completion on the end-game ranking screen. :?

Thanks, Kozo! Gaijin Punch is sending me Y's Oath, here pretty soon and I'm probably going to grab Xanadu Next soon, too :D Oath will probably consume a fair size of my Christmas vacation time and I'm pumped to have my PC setup on my Television running 1080p and w/ a USB gamepad :D

Excellent, man. Oath is a big hit. I personally am a bit tired of it, but I got sick of Ys VI quickly too, so it's not a big surprise. Still a great game though, and the PERFECT medication for that old-school action RPG cold. :D

Now, Xanadu Next, on the other hand...that is an all-time favorite of mine. A true standout in Falcom's star-studded lineup. I can't say enough good about XN.
