I'm not sure who invented the term 'middlebrow' but it basically summarizes my feelings and thoughts on movies like Little Miss Sunshine.
That's why I still haven't seen Juno, so many people liked it that it seems like it will be an OK movie with high production values that the kids can add to their long list of movies they love on their facebook page. It seems so phony and contrived and made to be marketed. Based on what I've heard the premise is fucking stupid too. I mean, if you get pregnant before you're 25, the responsible thing to do is to get that fetus chopped up.

I think she does a responsible thing, she is giving the baby away anyway, so there is no need to worry about the baby. It just takes some balls as a teenage girl to walk around with a big belly.Neon wrote:I mean, if you get pregnant before you're 25, the responsible thing to do is to get that fetus chopped up.
I was touched by this movie because I watched it when my sister thought she was pregnant (bad test lol)

Juno is a very good example of an okay movie that had a clever marketing machine behind it (soundtrack, etc). Then you had Ebert praising it, calling it the one of the 3 best of the year, and others picked up on it.
Same thing happened with No Country For Old Men, a movie lightyears behind There Will Be Blood, my pick for best of 2007. Sweeney Todd would be my second pick.
Edit: LMS is indeed an adorable "little" movie.

Me too. "Middle-brow", eh? Whatever.Kollision wrote: Little Miss Sunhine, on the other hand, isn't. I love this movie.
Also, if your new hobby is really reading movie reviews, you got it wrong. What you´re SUPPOSED to do is actually watch movies. "Hey, have you seen this new movie?" - "No, but I´ve read a LOT of great reviews about it. Let´s talk about it!"

I'm glad someone out there agrees with me about TWBB being a much better movie than NCFOM. However I would have to pick 'The Diving Bell and the Butterfly as my favorite of 2007, but TWBB was a close second.KindGrind wrote: Same thing happened with No Country For Old Men, a movie lightyears behind There Will Be Blood, my pick for best of 2007.
